USB wires cooked

Featured Replies

Hoping someone might be able to help...

My USB stopped working and following this the Sync3 touchscreen radio functionality and speaker system also stopped working.20251216_105616.thumb.jpg.ec28c52edcb1a9a6e41fb13f766870c3.jpg

I exposed out the usb hub and have unveiled two wires attached to the USB connector which were melted or fused together... bottom right of hub picture.

I'm trying to figure out where the usb connector with the two wires loops up to. I considered it to be the APIM though not sure how...

I think these wires need to be replaced. If I could locate where the wires are connected on the APIM I could take out the old wire and insert new.

Would be grateful if anyone had an idea

Use a multimeter and check the wires from end to end. One looks solid white and the other yellow with a blue stripe.

Have you been using any fast charging devices on the usb hub? smartphone or tablet?

they draw too much current when on fast charge mode.

as to fixing that, if its localised to that area of the loom, you can cut it out, solder new wire in with heatshrink over the repairs. rather than unraveling the whole loom.

The usb port was busted and an iPhone was connected up after this causing the Sync3 Radio function and speakers to stop working. Have an odb2 cable on the way so hopefully can run a forscan test on the ACM and Sync3 modules.

Will work on getting the usb wires sorted and hopefully as you suggest

What is the likelihood of the apim being damaged where a fast charging devices was connected to the usb?

I'm surprised there's no protection fuse behind the usb port for such an instance.

The apim part number is H2GT-14G370-FFD

I'm wondering would this be okay as a replacement if I need to get one

Can only be replaced with:

H2GT-14G370-FF?

Where the last letter can be 'D' or higher like 'E' or 'F'

Thank you. Maybe a dumb question but just to be sure. If I can't locate a similar apim can I use a 2nd hand sync3 touchscreen/apim reprogrammed with my vin no.

Or is Aliexpress an option?

I don't know if the VIN can easily be changed.

The correct part is out there but expensive. For example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146706376158

I've sourced a Sync3 Sat Nav System (touchsreen and apim) that was removed from Ford Edge and they will reprogramme to suit my 2017 S-Max with my vin number. Seems possible. Haven't purchased it yet as need to do some more research.

Replacing the Audio Control Module resolved the AM/FM touchscreen issue on the APIM. Didn't need to replace the APIM/touchscreen in the end. Inserted jumper wires for those those that were melted...joined and welded. Used a multimeter to determine the wires back to the apim connector...
