2.0 TDCi turbo actuator sensor plug - broken wire

Featured Replies

Hello folks, I have a broken wire on the TA (vane position) sensor plug. BTW does it look like a natural occurence or do you think i got some help with say possibly needle nose pliers? Just asking, because I've had the clutch kit done by a workshop and after a few days i've had an engine malfuncion & traction control light come on and went to limp mode. P2566 and P2263, ABS U0401, ABS U3001, IPC U0416....when removing the transmission, they cut the 3 cable ties on the main wiring harness going to the PCM, but afterwards it was left hanging! ABS, IPC, SASM not communicating occasionally, taking turns...  it's been a really interesting look under the car when i finally got to it! Missing fasteners, cable ties etc....🫣 also the clutch was apparently not bleeded, as i have a hard time reversing gear. Have to go through the forward gears to be able to engage in reverse.😤

Anyway i've got the car on the stands, not going anywhere near those guys until i send them a written complaint, a list of what they've messed up. Won't ever leave the car there again without me watching..just one more time, so they can sort things out and never again...

*How can i remove the pin?* Don't want to mess up the plug, but also would rather try to fix the pin without having to cut out the whole plug. What's my best shot? Is there a order code for this kind of a plug, or do i have a better chance finding a second hand piece at the yard? Anyone know of a repair kit for this? **  Don't wanna drive around with this fault, also i'm hesitant of them doing it, the trust i gone completely.

First i thought it was the sensor...(ok it does go as high as 118%....that's something new...last time i checked it went "only" as far as 108% at idle) ... but then I connected the Forscan and a vac pump...working the actuator up and down, wiggling the wires, which showed it's a wiring problem that i didn't yet notice  (the plug was in place on the mounted position sensor)... the right side of the graph shows the signal being pulled up, looking like noise...

The mail dealer said they only have the whole harness, as i expected...

Any help much appreciated!!!

My suggestion is to look here for de-pinning advice and you can hopefully get it out and solder it back on?:

I just searched YouTube for depinning  connector and loads came up:
Supposedly Ford specific:

Techs I follow seem to depin and repair (there are kits but unsure if they fit), have old wiring harnesses that they cut off connectors or sometimes order up new connectors from the dealers?

A real bodge would be to solder wires directly to sensor pins but the heat may cause damage  or find small connectors to use on each separate pin.
Could then be potted in silicone or epoxy.

The local dealer says it only has the whole harness. Don't wanna bodge it too much...it's trouble down the road if the sensor actually fails...

i seen that video....Ford Tech Makuloco show a similar connector with similar pins, shows how to get the plastic bit out, but not how to get the pins out 🙂

I don't have many shots.....if i mess up and the small bit of wire breaks, i won't have anything left to be able to pull the pin out..

Or is it possible for the pins to come out on the front side of the plug?

Ok found a hair pin in the bathroom ... i have only four ways to put it in i guess. 🫣

You need to get the pin out by whatever safe means if at all possible (those keys look like the "proper" way)
Agree a bodge may not be ideal but even if the sensor fails down the road, you can still get another and fix it with the same method.
Your choice of course, I'll leave you to it!

Yum! (on my website list!) but i can't (yet) see that specific connector - why are there so many different ones? (Like the BMW new patent for screwheads that are designed to reduce the ability to remove them or drastically increase the cost!)

Something like this might work

but i think i found something... on a polish site ..google translate here we go...🥳

Seems to match pretty closely. Don't like ordering from Poland though, last time i had some additional costs - zlot to euro conversion. ... always preffered ordering from the UK... but hey... we'll see.

After the holidays, i found a car-electronix guy not so far away that might be able to de-pin the socket. I sure couldn't. if i'd keep trying i would end up destroying the thing - so I stopped just in time before frustration made things worse 😁
