Galaxy - to fix or not?

Featured Replies

We have a Galaxy 2011 2.0 tdci with 163k on the clock. It’s been a brilliant car but currently faced with potentially replacing the turbo and having a new clutch. The fumes in the car are awful and suspected that it’s the turbo. Apparently a huge job. Mechanic has said don’t spend any money on it but I’m unsure whether that’s because they don’t want to do it. Mechanic suggested a Kia but having looked up the Sorento, I’ve found they have major engine failure issues and are lucky to get to 100k. Would it be worth just fixing the Galaxy or are we heading into more costly territory?

Take it to someone who actually knows what they're talking about, see what's really up, and how much it'll cost to fix.

A clutch is a clutch, probably need flywheel too (recommended)

It might not need a turbo, could be something far less hassle.

I suspect he doesn't want to do it because he wants to buy it off you for next to nothing, then fix it himself for next to nothing.

Go elsewhere

Kias are junk, even more so the older ones

Dave is right, check well what is wrong with the car and get a price for repair..., I would investigate some videos what it takes to change a turbo..., but could be also something else

I would dare to disagree with Dave :) that KIA are not good cars..., I used to work for them, my wife owns a KIA... cool, high quality cars, they match german cars easy.

If there would be a KIA size Galaxy, I would have taken KIA

just an example about KIA Ceed, no timing belt, but chain, first check at 150000 km
