Good afternoon everyone. 

First post here, my elderly neighbour has a diesel 2008 Fusion. the mileometer/trip data area of the dashboard is blank. I have tried to get it to work using the button on the end of the left hand stalk with the ignition on and the engine running. If I hold the button in, it will bleep but nothing appears.

I have checked all the fuses and they are ok.

I have disconnected the battery for ten minutes and when reconnected it has made no difference.

I even plugged my OBD reader at that did not identify any issues.

Everything else is working fine

Any advice will be gratefully accepted.

The failure of the display is quite common.

@rd457 might be able to help or point you in the right direction.

It'll need a replacement LCD.

If it's a type 2a-d from the below pic then these suffer from the common issue of cracked solder joints which I repair and they may want done at the same time. Probably not a type 2d if the LCD is failing. If it's a type 9, I haven't worked on one of those before so I don't know what's what.

Replacing an LCD isn't cheap, getting one will typically cost about £50. Replacing those in the type 2a-c variants is complicated. There are red with white text models, and green with black text models. There are Chinese made replacements for the type 2a/c, same as the small one in the 2b, but only in the green/black variety. Otherwise it's a matter of scavenging one from another unit.
