Replacing door central locking unit- used OEM or aftermarket

Featured Replies

Hi - anyone got any experience replacing the door locking mechanism on an SMax/Galaxy/Mondeo?  There are videos on YouTube and it looks straightforward.  Main question I have is on sourcing the replacement part (or refurbishing the existing one).  The mechanism still works manually but does not unlock using the remote key (but does lock), so methinks the motor is probably failing.  Probably a sealed unit though so more hassle than it's worth to try and repair.

There are loads of used parts on eBay from breakers but these will be a similar age to mine, so could well have a short remaining life.  Has anyone bought an aftermarket part such as this one: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/vemo/16190736

I'm thinking a good aftermarket part would probably outlast an old OEM part?
OEM part number is 6M2A-R26413-ED I believe, and variants 6M2A-R26413-EA/EB or EC also work?  Mine has child lock

That part is for LHD vehicles

It does say that on the part but I put my reg in and got a green tick that it fits.  Are the rear doors really any different?  But anyway, question is, has anyone got any experience with 3rd party parts?

Yes, I have previously ordered spare parts on the Autodoc website. I ordered brake pads. I plan to order new Bosch windscreen wiper blades as well, and I hope they will be of the same high quality.
