Need help with scraping noise from belt area.

Featured Replies

Scraping noise from what sounds like near the serpentine belt. I’ve changed the belt and still the same. I then changed the belt tensioner and put another new belt on and still the same. I can not tell the exact area it’s coming from. Ford fiesta Titanium 1.4 tdci 2009.

The noise does disappear after so long of driving

Have you tried running it with the aux belt removed?  That will prove whether the noise is from the aux belt or not.

I don't think it will be, as I had a 1.6 TDCI that made an 'aux belt' noise for the 3+ years that I owned it.  Even after replacing the timing belt, waterpump, aux belt and aux tensioner.  I have seen other people post about the same noise on these engines as well.  I suspect it could be the high pressure fuel pump, but never seen it confirmed.

I haven’t but the noise doesn’t even happen sometimes it’s a strange one it’s usually when the car’s been sat over night or for few hours but it definitely seems like it’s from that area. Will give it a try tomorrow but with it not happening all the time I could take off the belt and it might not make the noise anyways so it’s a hard one to figure out I even bought a stethoscope to try pinpoint where it was from but that was a waste of time.

Noise is still there with no belt on

That is good news! Means there most likely isn't a fault and you can just ignore it.🙂

(Unless the cambelt is overdue or unknown - you may still choose to replace that for peace of mind, though I don't believe that will stop the noise based on past experience.)
