MK3 Galaxy BCM issue

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction of what to check.

I have a 2008 2l diesel Galaxy with 230K on the clock. Recently it stated palying up with the instrument panel, air con, door locking, windows hazards etc not working. The car starts and runs fine with the indicator lights working but no internal click or lights. The central instrument panel screen lights up showing mileage and trip but nothing else. Radio comes on if switched on manually.

I've taken it to an auto electrition who said it was the bcm which I then got changed with a remanufactured recoded one but no change. Due to the age of the car I can't afford to put more money into it so having to go DIY.

Using Nigel Eland and ECU testings youtube videos I've tested the bus vis the odb. and got the following,

Pins 1->8 60ohms

Pins 3->11 80ohms (I believe this is a fault)

Pins 6-14 61 ohms

Voltages when key at position 2

pin 1 0v

pin 3 0v (issue I believe)

pin 6 2.8v

pin 11 0.9v (issue I beleive)

pin 14 2.36v

pin 16 14.76v (alternator good)

I used FORSCAN to test and got no results on the ms bus but believe thats due to no voltage on that line. I got 4 errors on the BCMii

Code: B1C84 - Heated Rear Window Relay Output Additional Fault Symptom (:14): - Circuit Short To Ground Or Open

Code: B1D39 - Rear Wiper Motor Additional Fault Symptom (:14): - Circuit Short To Ground Or Open

Code: U0010 - Medium Speed CAN Communication Bus Status (-6C): - DTC Maturing - Intermittent at Time of Request - Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC - Test not complete

Code: U0452 - Invalid Data Received From Restraints Control Module Status (-6C): - DTC Maturing - Intermittent at Time of Request - Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC - Test not complete

I've tested the relays for both the heated rear window and wiper and looks good with power at both and good earths. I swapped one of the relays with an alternative and no change. The light for the heated rear window does come on when pressed.

I have the old IPC version where I hear there can be issues with cracks on thecircuit board.

So my research says the 80ohms problem is the place to start which is a poor connection at the BCM or IPC. Does anyone know which connection this actually is on thse modules though?

What should I be testing to work though the issues so I don't chase the symtoms rather than the cause?

thanks for any time or answer you can help me with.
