Not Starting woes....

2016 TDCI Titanium 66K miles. OE Push button start Original battery

Started in the morning fine, drove 35 miles wouldn't start, left for 1hr 30 mins - wouldn't start. Tried and it eventually started after 10mins.

Drove for 15 mins left for parked for 30 mins - started OK. Drove for 15m mins to petrol station - wouldn't start for 25 mins - eventually started.

Checked when I got home started 4 times without fail. Now wont start - checked the battery it was a little low (12.1v) so after I tried to charge it and Jump it - still wont start.

Got new battery and fitted it (straight swap) ... still wont start. I have swapped relays in the fuse box they click when the button is pushed.

Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Tx Michael

you should not attempt to guess issues on any car made after 2005 - always plug in decent diagnostic kit - it will point at issues its had (that some idiot didn't fix correctly - by at least throwing old meaningless junk away - so you get a clue what the fools have been tampering), and will show issues currently still there... it doesn't fix anything but gives you ideas on next steps

glow plugs wear out and are a service item

clutch pedal switch faulty? try pumping the clutch a few times and push all the way down. pedal switch is very common,

Thanks - not guessing, process of elimination ... Its factory standard with only main stealer care. Its not showing anything on the engine light system and was a go no go situation.

I should have been clearer that when you push the button the relay clicks but it does not spin the starter - I ran out of light last night, I am going to bypass starter relay now, then get everything ready for tomorrow when I swap out the starter ..... urgh ....

Thanks, I'll see if i can run a bypass on it, if I my relay tinkering tonight looks like a dead end.
....though when you're pressing the start button without brake / clutch the car does remind you to do that to start the car....

Forscan can tell you if the clutch pedal switch is actually operating and likely the start button and maybe the signal to the starter which you could then use to see if the solenoid is getting a signal (and possibly more like controlling the starter but I'm uncertain what PIDs are available or to control) then there's continuity from battery to starter and earth strap.
But if you want to go straight to the starter, so be it.
Hope your relay bypass gives some result that means something and you can come back with a fix.

*******Question - Do I need to reset anything as I swapped out the battery ?************* Halfords said I need to reset the "charge" device??? Is this so ?
Anyways...... Ha ha! FIXED !
Starter relay bypassed drawing 10amps - so no fuse blown
OE Starter motor was dead - really strange - firing solenoid - kicks the pinion out but the motor is seized, and wont turn. It took longer jacking the car up and making it safe to work on than replacing the starter ....
Back on the road again for the kids taxi service..... Thanks...

Where is the best place to get FORSCAN and is it the best diagnostic system out there ? are there any others that are equal to it?

FORScan, for use with a Windows laptop, an Android phone or iPhone:

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

OR

For diagnostic use only:

for the best diagnostic tool for Ford cars, i would say Forscan.

@froggy8 just beat me...

"We" rate it as THE definitive software for Ford specific codes which cheap OBD readers or other software may/will never see, live data, programming etc (can't program without cheap licence but IMHO, that can be risky)
The cheap ELM adapters with switch are not recommended and are rubbish.
Bluetooth adapter:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08H82WC8L
Can drive the cheap App (Android or iOS) and maybe the laptop version (free) I haven't tried that route yet.
There is a USB lead:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BLH3ZTG1
If you prefer. I have both but the App is very comprehensive and you can send data via email etc. (App can't program)
There are multiple You Tube tutorials and again, I rate:
