Power shift

I have a 2017 Edge210 auto, 28000 miles, started shuddering in 2nd gear only, been quoted £4400 for rebuild, any ideas for cheaper options

Welcome!
Before anything else, at 2017 is it definitely a Powershift, DCT450, you know the c__p ones with the dual clutch (I'm useless on gearbox history)?
If so, there are multiple other threads detailing everything external to do before simply re-manufacturing the box.
Has any real diagnosis been done - fault codes etc?
My BIG question... when was the oil and filter last changed and what is the history of that (that may be relevant for ANY gearbox type?
For genuine Getrag Powershift only:

As that is THE biggest issue for that type of box, my suggestion is just change it and tear the filter apart to look for debris (plastics!) and go from there.

I’ve had the car for 4 months bought it with 25600 on the clock, have very little history but not due a gearbox service yet, the transmission garage said it needs a rebuild after a test drive

No warranty or Consumer come back?:

Only 25600 for a 2018 car - it should still have had at least 2 or even 3 changes to date based on 3 years/change?
Well, yes, you can either go for the nuclear expensive option or start from basics as I suggest (other posters are available)
Yes, changing the oil and filter will cost but an order of magnitude less.
I'm sorry but I have to laugh at the "no history" comment!
In that case, personally, it just needs doing before making that very expensive decision which may of course still be necessary if oil change and other external/fault codes (proper, use Forscan)/wiring checks don't fix it.
All of that is necessary IMHO anyway to rule out external problems.
I'm hoping someone else on here agrees but the final choice is up to you of course!

No history? Have 3 service (not Ford) unfortunately, I understood the gearbox service was 32000-36000. My limited knowledge of automatic transmission thought that 2nd gear synchro didn’t warrant a total rebuild, I will look for a second option

Is it definitely a Powershift DCT transmission and not a torque converter (again - need to be certain of this)?
"Shuddering" (if it's the way I'd understand it, a series of jerks when 2nd gear is engaged) sounds more like a clutch issue to me which would be even gears controlled by one of them so are there any signs of 4 and 6 being affected?
Providing the gear is engaged by the hydraulics the appropriate clutch then takes control but again, I'd read the expansive Ford codes with Forscan (not a cheap OBD reader and perhaps not even some garage systems) to see if there are any clues.
I have always thought (and carried out) plus have some evidence that Ford recommend oil & filter change at 3 year intervals as well as mileage based.
You don't say if there is any warranty or failing that if the fault has been there from the start, or shortly after you need to consider asking the supplier to fix it?
I don't feel my "aiming to be helpful" comments are being answered but that is up to you?

I would suggest to adjust the clutch, too. Shuddering is the sign of the clutch, at least in most cases scenarios, but garages seem to replace the gearbox rather than looking to resolve the issue step by step. you can do it yourself with access to forscan and no doubt there are plenty instructions online.

Unfortunately, there is, as far as I'm aware, no adjustment of Powershift clutches other than resetting via Forscan software and only as a last resort after everything else, especially oil and filter have been tried?
