2016 Ford Transit 2.2 Diesel won’t crank after service

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice.

I have a 2016 Ford Transit 2.2 Diesel (Duratorq engine). This morning I carried out a basic service:

  • Engine oil change

  • Oil filter

  • Air filter

  • Cabin filter

The only electrical item I unplugged was the air filter sensor, which I plugged straight back in.

After the oil change, I got a message on the dash saying “Oil change required”. I reset the oil service by pressing both the brake and accelerator pedals for around 20–30 seconds until it displayed “Service oil reset complete.” However, the van still won’t start.

Important details:

  • The van hasn’t been used for about 3 weeks, so I’m not sure if this is related to the service or just coincidence

  • Ignition comes on fine, dash lights up normally

  • No cranking at all when turning the key

  • I removed the battery and put it on charge, but it’s showing 14V, so I don’t think the battery is the issue

At this point, the engine simply won’t crank. Has anyone experienced something similar? Could the oil service reset, a sensor, immobiliser, or something else be preventing it from cranking?

Any help would be much appreciated — thanks in advance!

Hi,

It's impossible for a 12v battery to hold 14v. What are you using to test that?
