2005 1.6 TDCI rear shocks - two different types?

Featured Replies

Rear shock on my 2005 (05 plate) 1.6 TDCI is leaking. GSF locally have them in stock but list two different part numbers with slightly different open and closed lengths.

I'm not finding alternatives listed on other sites, and I never quite trust these part finders.

Before I take a shock off to check, has anyone come across this before? Are there really two alternatives?

Thanks

Hi,

There is only one type of rear shock for the Fusion. However, Fusion gets lumped together with Mk6 Fiesta on some parts catalogues (including Ford catalogues) so I suspect you're seeing Fiesta shocks as well as Fusion shocks.

Genuine part number for Fusion should be 1919350 to use for compatibility.

Hi, the rear shocks are no different, I'm currently doing a 2007 fiesta S, having taken all the suspension out, the shocks are the same.

The only difference are the springs, fusion spring are stiffer, to allow for the ride height.

I temporarily put the fusion rear springs on the fiesta, looked like a 4X4.

As you can see from the pictures, shocks in size, fiesta on the left, fusion on the right, & fitted to the fiesta.

The Ford parts catalogue would disagree with that statement. 🤔

As mentioned regarding the shocks, the shocks I put in the fiesta are the original ones I took out, I just freshened them up, the old shocks as shown have been refurbished & could go back on.

I checked the dimensions all round Inc the pistons, both measure the same.

There is some confusion regarding parts, Inc insurance, some insurance companies regard the fusion as a "Mondeo".

The American Fusion is basically a Mondeo, so that's an understandable mistake on international insurance databases.

But for the European Ford parts catalogue to show two different part numbers, based on trim level (called 'series' in these catalogues) then I would believe that at least some Fiestas had different shocks to Fusion from the factory. It is possible that they standardised them all at some point, or that the Fiesta ZS had the same shocks as Fusion, but maybe comfort trims didn't. I'm not disputing that your two cars have the same ones, I am disputing that every Fusion and Fiesta has the same ones. Unfortunately the 'series' are difficult to work out against our UK trim levels so I can't say which trim levels each part number refers to. However, you can see from the fitment dates that production of one stops in 2008, and the other in 2012. Those are the dates that production ended on Mk6 Fiesta and Fusion respectively, that seems like more than coincidence.
