Anyone know if Focus Estate MK2.5 and MK2 rear light unit is interchangeable?

A tab has broken on my Mk2.5 rear light unit (white honeycomb look) and like to replace the unit.

Seem to be loads of cheap MK2 rear light units about (they're mainly red colour). Are these MK2 (including bulb holder) a direct swap into a 2008 MK2.5?

Physically, fixtures and fittings look the same, but what about the wiring/electrics?

MK2/MK2.5 Estate rear lights are fully interchangeable as long as the corresponding bulb holders are used.

Installing MK2.5 rear lights onto a MK2 Estate was a well-known modification back in the days. Most people prefer the more modern look of the MK2.5 rear lights.


On the hatchback the MK2/MK2.5 rear lights are not interchangeable. At least not without modifications to the wiring.

Thanks for the quick reply JW1982. I could see physically they should fit but couldn't get clarity on the wiring. Good to hear that's no issue providing the whole unit is switched across including bulbholdesrs. I'm neutral on the styling, for me with this car main thing is function, condition and price (if a bit more red colour shows off the "Avalon coachwork" that's a bonus. 😉
