Transit for the Arctic MK 6 or MK 7

Featured Replies

Hi I've reach the limits of what the search engines have to offer and now I've come to the place where hopefully the answers I seek are.

Of the MK 6 & MK7 versions of the transit, which do you think would be most reliable in cold conditions?

The engine hp options are either 125 or 140 with front wheel drive with manual gearbox.

The transits I'm considering are motorhomes from new under 6m in length.

My research so far has one startling stat, all the MK 7 I'm interested in have rebuilt engines and the MK 6 do not.

This is so unexpected that I wondering if it is just a glitch due to small sample size or is there something known about.

Is it due to how motor homes are used, being idle for long periods but still having low mileage or is it a question of how much I'm willing to spend?

Second part, what spare parts would you take on a trip to a cold climate?

I have only ever travel in cold conditions for short periods, although I've done long trips in hot climates with front wheel rear wheel and four wheel drive.

Personally those difficult to source locally electronic parts are what come to mind.

Glow plugs injectors and timing chains will be changed no matter what the eventual story is on condition.

Thanks

Keep away from the ecoblue, that's for sure

Diesels, in general, are impacted in very cold climates, I don't know how low you're gunna go

I'd probably go for a Merc (if you can get one with less rot than a 1yr old Ka) or a VW to be fair

Hi thanks I know about the wet belts. I have a mercedes but they are rear wheel drive and the sprinter engine is not the easiest to fix when your a long way from home especially if it concernes the last two cylinders. By contrast the transit engine looks very accessible although I have never worked on them.
