Dry scraping noise when I set off in 1st or Reverse

Featured Replies

I have a 2013 Focus titanium, its done 118k and its started making a weird noise when I set off in 1st gear or reverse.

It doesn't always do it but its getting more and more often and its getting a little worrying.

Has anyone had a similar issue or any idea what the problem could be please?

New clutch and flywheel at 75k and its had full service by Halfords every year

Hi,

Is this noise from the front/centre around the clutch and gearbox area?

Dry scraping is usually just a sticking brake caliper, but you should be able to pinpoint that to one corner.

Can you also confirm which engine the car has as there are various different clutch & gearbox setups used on a 2013 Focus.

Im having the car checked by mechanic later today to confirm everything, but the brakes were all done in January when it was serviced and mot'd.

The engine is 1.6 diesel.

I have had one tell me its the clutch and another tell me its more likely to be gearbox as its happening in 1st and reverse.

its driving me a little mad at this point

The B6 gearbox is a weak point on the 1.6 TDCI engine. The input shaft bearing wears out.

But it could also be the clutch worn out again. 50k on an aftermarket clutch isn't unreasonable.

Both are physically close together so difficult to diagnose from description of noise alone.

Thank you for that, they're having the car next week to strip it down cos the clutch went to the floor twice on way up there so now I'm worried about driving it at all.

I'm back at work on Sunday so there's that worrying drive every day as well.

He has said if its clutch and cylinder I'm looking at over a grand
