Jaecoo - what do we think? Would you buy one?

Featured Replies

Jaecoo seems to keep cropping up in various threads so I thought I'd gjve it one of its own!

Saw 3 this morning just while I was walking for a paper and to drop off our used medication blister packs at the collection point in the local health centre. A brand new Jaecoo 7 drove into the car park, and promptly reversed into a wall with a loud crunch. Odd thing was, it was creeping slowly back then suddenly surged about 2 feet from the wall. First thought was drivers foot had slipped off the clutch but a discrete examination revealed it was auto - they dont do a manual apparently.

When I got back home and opened the paper I found it contained a 2 page spread about Jaecoo. Can't get away from the things, it seems!

Not sure if cars would be the same but Chinese Motorbikes, the dealers dont want them back after 2 years as it means they have to warranty the bike for a year on the resale, so basically trade in prices are silly.

Whether its the same for cars is another matter, some of them have decent manufacturers warranty but later down the road it maybe a different story.

Buying new would be best option, but watch out for the GFV on the finance numbers

Not a massive fan of the Jaecoos, I've seen the panel thickness, they're made of tissue, a bit like MK4 Focus.

God knows what they'll be like when they're getting on a bit. I can see corrosion being a big issue.

I certainly wouldn't want to own one past three years.

The 7 year warranty is junk after 3 years, read the small print.

I do like the BYDs a bit, but not enough to buy one

It would be a no from me anyway as I don't need this sort if vehicle.

I don't get the cut price Range Rover comparison myself, I would have thought Qashkai or Sportage were more comparable and the Jaecoo isn't that cheap compared to them.

Dave's right, when you dig into the "7 year warranty" some fairly important components - including alternator, starter motor, fuel pump, water pump - only get 3.

you'll be surpised how many manufacturers do that, recently needed an adblue pump.. where i was supposed to have a 100k mile warranty, the pump had 64k warranty, luckily my car was 60k.

You i came across something interesting on chat gpt. If you can get the warranty added into a digital text format, ask chat gpt to search the document for any exclusions and things that maybe not in the 7 year and bullet point them , works a treat. Same goes for insurance policies of any kind. get it to list out the exclusion points in a simple list, saves all the reading.

Think they must all be up North. I saw my second one only yesterday! Nice shade of green in fairness, which looked much better than the white one I've seen a few times.

I wouldn't buy one. But I wouldn't buy a Range Rover either, regardless of price. Just not my thing at all.

Regarding the carpark crunch, I wonder whether they're DCT? I really didn't like parking with DSG when I first tried that, and was surprised that more people don't crash them in carparks.

Probably left foot braking, then forgetting the left foot is stopping the car moving, then releasing the left foot and shooting forwards/backwards.

I've seen so many people do that and write cars off that way

Yes, 7 speed dct. I read somewhere it was Getrag, might even be the DCT 300 as currently used by Ford, MINI, etc.

I'm usually very careful when parking any 2 pedal car forwards or back. My occasional trick when my brain is in "autopilot mode" is to hit the brake thinking its the non-existent clutch, thus coming to a stop rather more abruptly than intended. Certainly never hit anything, though!

I think I mentioned on another thread once turning up at my physio to find the car park full of wrecked cars. Result of a scenario as Dave describes - guy had panicked after hitting the wrong pedal, then panicked some more, and so on and so on. Utter mayhem!

alternator, starter motor, fuel pump, water pump - only get 3. But jaecoo EV doesn't have these. 😂 Well maybe a motorised coolant pump.

3 Lads at work have omodas and are happy with them . Friend has just bought a jaecoo but not seen him yet to ask his thoughts.

There's plenty of jaecoo around where I live

"The JAECOO 7 has been confirmed as the UK’s best-selling new car in March 2026*, according to the latest figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)*. The milestone marks the first time the JAECOO 7 has secured the number one position, having consistently ranked among the UK’s top ten best-selling new cars sold, since September 2025."

Another reason EV variants are better. Smooth power delivery with no jerkiness. Slow speed manoeuvres are so good.

I guess most, if not all, customers will be going for some sort of finance deal - lease or PCP - as is the way nowadays. If you get rid after that, not much to worry about. Same with any car really, as we find on here its the second and subsequent owners who have the problems.

Still not managed a full EV test drive**. But I found that with Honda and Toyota FHEVs which always drive through the electric motor - much smoother than autos, particularly DCT imo.

** Hope to try the ID Polo when it appears, but given my past experiences with the local VW dealer I'm not counting on it!
