Dint and scratch

Featured Replies

Hi. I damaged the car when parked near a bollard. Is there a way to get a dint and scratch out or plan b, where I could get it sorted if not too expensive. It's quite embarrassing. Quite a big dint. It doesn't seem to show the full dint in the pic.

I guess it comes down to how much you are prepared to spend. In probable order of cost:

  • Just ensure bare metal is covered to prevent rust, use touch up and polish out as best you can, accepting it won't look great

  • Get a quote from your local Chips Away or similar mobile franchisee - they can usually quote from good pictures by email and may be able to do a small area repair

  • Visit a good bodyshop who would probably repaint the whole panel

Ok thanks.

Or just find a replacement door. This is usually cheaper than a professional repair. Especially on a door, where dent removal from the inside is not always possible due to the sandwich construction and reinforcements.

For an extremely common car like the Fiesta, finding a replacement door in the correct color is usually not a problem. There are currently a few of these doors in the correct color on Ebay. If you can not find a suitable replacement right now, just touch up the scratch to prevent corrosion and keep an eye at Ebay or local breaker yards.

I didn't mention sourcing another door as I guessed (apologies if I'm wrong) that Craig was looking for the simplest solution.

Certainly a good alternative to attempting to repair a badly damaged door. Quite a few of the doors on Ebay at present seem to need cosmetic repair, though. You really need to inspect them personally.

(As an aside, a friend of mine had a quite badly damaged rear door on his wife's Fiesta some years back. His local bodyshop (who are very good and reasonably priced) suggested going down the breakers replacement door route and sourced and fitted an immaculate door in the exact colour. All good until we noticed that the "new" door glass had dark tint and the originals were untinted. The shop admitted they had failed to check and duly swapped the glass over foc.)

On my previous fiesta chips away were pretty useless and wanted daft money before they'd consider taking it on . Got a local paintless bloke in and they pulled it out and polished it for £60.

So search paintless smart repair / dent repair / dent wizard / dent genie ( anything like that) there will be one that's near to you can get a price from.

Most of these people are franchisees, some good, some not so good, so looking for local reviews and experiences of friends/neighbours is a good idea. I've used my local a couple of times on small stuff and was pleased with the result.

Before that I used a guy who used to be a franchisee (can't remember for who) but then went independent. He was absolutely brilliant, but unfortunately ceased trading some years back.
