Battery keeps going flat

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I’m a student and I don’t really know much about cars. I recently bought a 2014 fiesta a month ago and it’s gone flat on me 4 times already. I brought it to my local garage before purchase and got the go ahead from the mechanic. I’ve recently brought it back to him and he hooked it up on wires and electrical stuff to see what was draining it. He couldn’t find what it was and said the battery was in good condition. It died this morning and like completely flat. It’s getting very annoying and I feel like this was a very bad purchase on my behalf. Any advice and help would be appreciated please.

Are there any warning lights illuminated on the dash ?

You could have a faulty battery or a faulty alternator, which if faulty, isn't charging the battery when the engine is running.

charge the battery with an external charger, and check the voltage once its finished charging (leave it a couple of hours to give the battery a chance to settle.

should be around 12.6V. Below 12.4V the battery is showing signs of high resistance, and is on the way out.

Check it the following day, and see what the voltage is. should have only dropped about 0.02V. Any large drop, and its either a bad battery, or you have a paracitic draw, thats killing the battery.Ive got an 18 month old focus with less than 4000 miles on the clock, and my battery has gone bad, going in next week for hopefully a replacement under warranty.
