mk4 focus electronic parking brake stuck in maintenance mode

Featured Replies

My focus mk4 has been throwing the occasional "park brake malfunction service now" message that seems to be common on this car. Normally it has released after a few tries but today it wouldn't.

I had a google and saw I should enter then exit maintenance mode. I tried the holding down the accelerator and parking brake button but that didn't do anything, so the suggestion was to do it with forscan. This worked fine.

I then tried to exit maintenance mode. This failed. The dash showed these messages:

Check brake system
Hill start assist not available
Drive mode not available
Hill start assist not available (again)

Then forscan stops at either 12 or 15% with a message saying the brake must be released.

Maintenance mode is still enabled. I tried various combinations of pedals and parking brake switch to try reset it but that hasn't helped.

I can't take the car to a garage as the brakes are engaged.

Anyone got any suggestions?
