Bike Rack For 2008 '58' Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm looking for a bike rack for my Fiesta, but I don't know whether to get a roof mounted one, or a rear mount bike rack.

I've got a 3 door 58 plate (the new style) Fiesta.

Do I have to get an official Ford bike rack or do universal ones from argos/halfords fit?

I've never had a bike rack and am really unsure how stable they are on the back of cars, I always feel uneasy when following a car with bikes attached to them encase they fall off.

If anyone can point me in the right direction and recommend any it would be much appreciated.

I need it to hold 2 mountain bikes.

Many thanks

I have a universal one from halfords that goes on the back

Tried it on the back a while back when I was debating whether to get a bike

Really doesn't work well with the Zetec S spoiler

Did you take any pictures when you had it on?

Fortunately mine is a titanium and I don't have the zetec s bodykit, so the spoiler isn't an issue, can you please post a link to the one you have to I can go get one for myself. Many thanks

Afternoon all,

Any fiesta owners out there who transport a bike around from time to time?

I'm getting a new bike soon and after a friend mentioned they struggled to fit one into their focus I was a bit concerned about getting one into a fiesta.

However after a little googling a mountain bike can fit in with a wheel removed so I'm glad about that:

Just wondering though if anyone would advise against this and either use a rear mount or roof rack?

Obviously putting it inside with the seats down would be easier (and I'd buy a huge plastic sheet to protect the interior) - just wanted to hear what others do with their bikes and their fiesta.

thanks

Paul :)

I've found that the generic halfords racks not to be that great. The straps seem to work loose pretty easily. As I result I easy chuck my bikes in the back of the car, its a pain in the winter when the bike is covered in crud. The other thing is when your bikes are mucky, bike racks tend to rub and damage them.

If you really want a rack, I would go to a proper bike shop and pay a bit extra for a high quality branded one.

This advise is from a bike geek though....

Or one of those German ones :

i have the high mount one from argos and that fits fine.

i have a tit but it has the zs spoiler and the top straps clear it because it's high mount.

only issue is that it has bottom straps that need to hook onto the towing eye

Being able to chuck it into the back is what I wanted to hear Sam :-) I've bought a large plastic ground sheet to protect the interior when the bikes in. I may get a rack for the back that can carry two bikes later on so me and a bud can go out of town and hit the bikes tracks.

I just went and paid for the bike tonight and can collect it on Wed night once its been checked and the upwards pointing mountain handles are fitted (thats the technical term right? lol). Am quite looking forward to it now. Then again when I'm in my car and pass bikes I think look I've got a car - so when on this bike I might have to wear a sign saying I do actually own my own car, this bike is just for leisure lol. (wow that must sound snobby?)

Not that I'll be on the roads very much - hoping to stick to cycle paths/tracks etc.

Anyways, I'll keep in mind you're a "bike geek" encase I have any questions later on.

(I'll probs be in agony by this time next week).

I bought 1 off ebay a couple of yrs ago and its great. We did 500 miles with 2 mountain bikes on it and it was fine.

*added to favourites* cheers grin factor

I probably will end up with the higher style one. That first one creates such a rear overhang it may as well have wheels and call it a trailer ;)

Yeah I think the high rear mounts are for me, not too keen on the roof style ones. I'm bound to let it drop off the mount and dent/seriously scratch the roof.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I didn't expect to see so many (and pics) on this issue.

:D

My Marin full-suspension bike is in the back of my Fiesta as I write. Due to the longer wheelbase compared to a hard-tail or a road bike I need to drop both wheels and fold the seats down. Previously I've had my road bike in there only taking off the front wheel. I've got a boot liner (coated fabric) from Lidl/Aldi that I use to protect the car, and then some bubble wrap to stop the wheels rubbing against the frame. This only works if you have one bike to carry - I wouldn't stack them, and of course you can't carry anyone in the back. A friend has the Ford roof rack and bike carrier (made by Thule?) which works OK on his Fiesta. Given the cost of my bikes I wouldn't want to leave them accessible from the outside...

Mines a hard tail so hopefully should be able to squeeze it in with only 1 wheel off.

Good idea about the bubble wrap, I'll keep my eyes peeled for some. And yeah I'd only carry one bike inside, don't want mine getting damaged or scratched.

I had the seats down and the ground sheet laid out ready to collect the bike after work today but they called saying the side handle bar bits hadn't arrived in yet so would be friday now (as they're closed tomorrow). Slightly dissapointed now  Nevermind, only a couple of days wait

On a different note I was suprised how much the seats and parcel shelf must help insulate the cabin as the car seemed louder today with the back all flat

I meant to post a pic earlier but I've been too busy out on two wheels. As assured it did fit it :D

Cheers again
