Mountune 140Ps Mk7 Economy

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm considering Mountune's 140PS upgrade for my Mk7 Zetec-S and am wondering the effect it'll have on economy.

I'm currently getting 42-45MPG, and am hoping that as there's no turbo/supercharger, the less restrictive intake/exhaust should offset the richer fuel:air mixture (assuming that's part of the ECU remap).

Petrol's too expensive to warrant the upgrade if economy takes a big hit.

Cheers.

A bit off topic, is the Mountune available only in UK?

What is the torque for the Mountune kit?

MP140

...to produce 140PS at 6750rpm and 170NM at 4250rpm. This boost in performance reduces the standard 0-60mph time from 9.9secs to 7.9secs

MR155

MR155

Well, sounds not that bad but...don't know if it's really worth it...

120ps -> 140ps might not sound like much, but if you think about it, that's approx a 17% gain (just in ps)

The 140ps -> 155ps kit is an approx gain of 11%

120ps -> 155ps is a gain of around 29%

I wouldn't imagine it would have a massive effect on MPG, though the improved performance and sound may make you drive it a bit harder!

I'd love to get the MR155 kit, in conjunction with the J1 induction, that's got to be pushing on for 160ps! Which isn't bad at all for a 1.6 N/A engine and a small, light car.

I'm more interested in the effect it would have on insurance.

How much would both kits cost? (120-140 and 140-155)

Tato all the questions you're asking are on the website that I linked you to above ;)

my mpg with the 140 upgrade is about 30, my mpg before the upgrade was about 30 too though. thats just my driving style but to get the best use out of the upgrade you have to rev pretty hard so you'll either notice very little and maintain 40+mpg or you'll take advantage of the upgrade and your mpg will drop.

Are you overall satisfied with the upgrade?

Yes, the power and sound is very noticeable.

Thanks mate.

I don't know so much about the Mountune so the next question might be silly: is it possible to get straight the MR155?

Are you considering getting the 155?

yes you can go straight for the 155 upgrade.

I'm not going to get that one though. I'm going to wait to see what the fiesta ST and focus ST is like next year then either get one of those or just get a new motorbike and an older faster car.

In your opinion, is it better to get the 155 straight or go for the 140 first? I mean, is the difference that noticeable?

i don't know about the difference between the 140 and 155 as i only have the 140 but between 120 and 140 it is noticeable. If you can afford it and arent too worried about the warranty then go for 155, more power is always nice.

Both, 140 and 155 should not void the Ford warranty, right?

What did you mean by "worried about the warranty"?

The MR155 Kit voids the Ford drivetrain warranty

The 155PS kit can be fitted to any 1.6 Ti VCT Mk7 Fiesta, new or used, and has a minimum 12 months/12,000-mile warranty but as a Mountune Racing product may affect the base vehicle warranty (specifically the powertrain portion).

The MP140 kit maintains the Ford warranty over the entire car.

Isn't it the same for the 155?

Does anyone have any idea how much roughly the 140 and 155 would add to insurance? I'm currently paying approximately £1000.

No, it voids part of your warranty.

Didn't change mine much but that won't be the same for everyone, best thing to do would be to ask your insurance company.

Most insurers recognise the 140ps upgrade, and it's listed seperately on price compare sites, for example confused.com

*See (140 - UPGRADE)

The difference for me would be £570 standard or £940 mountuned to 140ps. But I'm just 21 and still building no claims etc.

Unfortunately they don't list the 155ps upgrade, so this would have to be taken up with your own insurer.

Some people say it's cheaper to list the upgrade components separately (exhaust, remap etc) rather than as Mountune upgrade.

my problem with insurance was that they list the s1600 seperate from zetec s but don't have an option for s1600 with 140 upgrade only zetec s or titanium with the upgrade. I let them work it out and it ended up costing me about £20 more for the year.
