Mk7 Oil Condition

Featured Replies

just had a look at the dipstick and the oil is filthy - black, not golden.

is this normal for a 7k car? i bought it "ex demo" from a ford dealer but it hasnt got that 1000 miles check stamp in the logbook.

Yes completely normal for a diesel - you can get an oil changed at the dealer and by the time you've driven it home it will be black again.

How many miles should I be expecting from a petrol before oil changes?

i was always taught that an oil change every 6000 miles is best practice. but annually when service is due is fine.

you can tell if the oil needs changing in a petrol by looking at the colour on the dipstick. new oil is the colour of golden syrup, and it gets darker as it gets older.

The "1000 miles check stamp" isn't worth anything anyway. They don't do anything like change the oil, it's just a check up to see if everything is as it should be and isn't part of the service history.
