Hi All

I've had a problem for a while - my steering wheel vibrates quite a lot when travelling above 50mph. So much so when driving long distance on the motorway etc I have very "fuzzy" hands for ages after due to the vibration. My steering wheel is also offset to the right to go straight - if I put my steering wheel straight the car drifts to the left. In winter my other half bumped the car into the kurb in heavy snow as we were unable to stop...so all this points to tracking/alignment to me? I've had a look online and read a few reviews and it actually seems like a common problem, regardless of whether you've hit anything/done anything which would knock it out. Anyone else had this problem?

I've booked the car in at Evans Halshaw Ford...but I'm beginning to worry they might charge me an arm and a leg to fix something which would only be around £25 at Halfords Autocentre....any suggestions/advice?!?

If you bumped the kerb which i did in February when i got it new. I had to replace my steering rack and a tire, YES i hit that hard. lol The ALLOY did survive! You could also be lucky and it could be a alloy that needs to be replaced or possibily a bump in the tire. If your steering is shaking it seems to be a serious problem. I'd have that checked urgently.

It should only need the tracking sorted. Tell them that's all you want doing. If it doesn't sort it then you can just go back in :)

so what you are asking is Halfords any more honest than your local Ford dealer?

no matter what garage always get an upfront price quote first. if they tell you 'around £25' then slap a bill for 3x as much you can ask why.

Should they point out or work that urgently needs doing then thank them but say you wish to get quotes from other garages - especially if you are on a budget, money is tight these days don't feel ashamed by wanting to find a better deal.
