Fiesta 1.4 Tdci Bhp Increase?

Featured Replies

Hi, Just got my Ford Fiesta 1.4TDCI Titanium of my mom as a present birthday present :) and was looking for a BHP chip for it to give it a bit more POWER any ideas? Also I am currently on my parents insurance which runs out at the end of september and am looking for some new quotes. At the moment I pay £220 per month to be insured on the car as a named driver. The best quote I can find at the moment with my parents and me as a named driver is £2400 with direct line using a good multi car discount any ideas?(Forgot to add that im 17)

I fitted a box to my 1.6tdci about 3 months ago and have been really impressed with the results. Bought it from here : (version 2 box)

remember if you fit a tuning box and increase the bhp of your car you will need to tell your insurance company, which of course would also mean a bigger premium, especially at your age. Tuning boxes are a great way of increase the bhp by 30 - 50bhp but failure to inform your insurance company could void your policy if your are involved in an accident, even one that's not your fault. Personally I would save the cash for a couple of years while you're a tad older with some 'no claims' -proof of your driving ability.

First things first - if this is your car and you drive it the most you need to be insuring it in your name - not your parents.

You must take out a policy in your own name (you can add parents as named drivers, usually brings the price down) otherwise this is known as 'fronting' and is illegal. If caught and you had an accident your insurance can be declared void and you will be liable for costs.

Also Direct Line do not insure anyone under 25 if the car is modified which you are planning to do.

Ok thanks for all of your advice

As said before, the insurance increase will be pretty brutal for a remapped car. If you still decide to go down that route, I'd look for a good reputable company for a remap. Motech Performance have a really good rep amongst a lot of guys on bimmerforums.co.uk.

I think Bluefin do a handheld map for this engine and seem highly thought of in the MINI circles. Not sure what Ford owners think.

I'd also hang and wait till you have a few years no claims.£220 per month is crazy money. I can't believe how expensive insurance has got over the last few years. I got my Clio 1.4 in 2005 at 22 with no no claims and that was only £50 per month! The Cooper S I had in 2007 didn't cost much more than that.

And watch Ford laugh at you when the engine goes bang and you think you have a warranty claim.

Most of these boxes and remaps simply over fuel to get more power they are now detectable even after removed, Ford have updated the cache in ECU with a memory dump that detects external devices or remaps by comparing profiles, GM and Honda re doing same soon I believe,, beware....

Elkie that sounds like scare mongering. Where is the proof of that statement or us it simply from reading what someone else had made up.

I cannot see Ford spending money on upgrading every ecu they put in cars just to try and find out if a remap has been done.

lol, cache is temporary memory, why would they update the temporary memory to detect external devices?

All the ECU will see is under fueling, so it will pump a bit more juice into the engine.
