Engine Management Fault

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2006 Fiesta Zetec.

I got in it to go to work the other morning and the engine management light did not turn off like it usually does once you have started up.

It is running just like normal, no loss of power and nothing different to normal.

I went onto the menu on the dashboard by holding the mileage reset button for 10 seconds, but I can't seem to find any fault codes.

I have also disconnected the battery in the hope the light will stop coming up but it still is showing.

Does anyone have any further suggestions of things I could try?

Am I missing the codes on the dash? There are quite a lot of different pieces of info, maybe I am not noticing it?

you cant find any fault codes through the diagnostics menu, only serial numbers for software etc. you need a EDIS diagnostic reader or at the least an ODB-II reader both of which plug into the diagnostics port

my suggestion is take it to fords or another place with a diag machine and ask for the lowdown - they'll charge about £25 i reckon.

Hi, thanks for your post.

£25 sounds like a bargain, when I took my astra in, I am sure it was about £75 at vx.

I was thinking about maybe getting something like this...

Can Scan D900

Apparently, it is compatible with a range of makes of vehicle. Seeing as I have both a vauxhall and a fiesta, it could come in handy for the future.

Do you think it is worth me getting one, or should I just head for ford?

I just went back on the dash menu and it says DTC NONE on the dash. But maybe that means there are no errors on the cluster as opposed to the ecu.

the errors that flag up the engine light are not readable by the cluster display.

id take it to fords rather than get your own - ive heard of those ebay ones frying ECUs. more info on the risks of cheap ones here
