Noisy Cambelt/water Pump??

Featured Replies

I have the 1.6 Econetic TDCi engine and for some time now there has been a chirping type of noise from the cam belt area, I have sprayed PTFE (non-oily) into the cam belt housing and it clears the noise for about 2 weeks, then it slowly returns.

Some say that it could be the Water Pump, as its a common problem on this 'peugeot' engine.

I have the very same noise on my Focus with the same engine.

cheers

when my water pump went it was more of a low oscillating "whirring" noise (like a laser printer warming up)

but i wouldnt rule it out as the cause of your chirp.

if it is the water pump get it looked at ASAP because if it seizes, it could snap your timing belt.

If it is the water pump you might as well change the cambelt at the same time too.
