Tyre Pressure

Featured Replies

Hi all i am just wondering when doing tyre pressure does it have to be on level ground i've always done mine on a slope on my driveway. But i've heared to get a correct reading it's got to me done on level surface does it really matter.

Thanks alan.

Hi mate, not entirely sure to be honest. I've always done mine on a slope too and never had any issues, I don't think it's that vital. Others may be of a differing opinion though.

it needs to be level ground, as the centre of mass of the car will be skewed relative to the wheels, providing readings that are higher than they are on level ground, and those uphill will be less than on level ground.

Thought this was a strange question, so I did my pressures on the flat and on an incline, result, exactly the same. Hope this helps. And yes, I was bored with nothing better to do. ;)

I've never had any problems checking on a slope or level ground, so i don't think it really matters. The only thing that matters is, check the tyre when it's cold. eg, not a few seconds after you have been driving. Allow around 30 mins before checking.
