Self Adhesive Carpet - Anyone Used It Anywhere Other Than The Boot?

Featured Replies

I've used some black self adhesive carpet (like this) to cover the back of my rear seats in the boot, but I'm not sure how good it is for other places in the car.

Anyone used any in the main part of the car? Does it fade over time in direct sunlight?

I'm thinking about covering some of the lower plastic panels of the center console - the bits which get skuffed and scratched by the driver and passenger's (both front and rear) feet.

Interesting. How many of these at 70cm x 140cm did you need? Is one enough?

Also is it easy to clean? if it catches bits and gets them caught like the normal car carpet does, I think I'd get super frustrated!

Ben... Lined the little storage hole on the centre console:

Not sure what he used for it though, I'm sure he'll be happy to tell you!

Door trays would be good lined, stop bits rattling, glove box, lower door plastics.

Options are endless, Ford should have done most of the places themselves.

I've lined the same storage compartment as Ben did (although he didnt use adhesive felt/carpet) and also the small opening compartment to the right of the steering column. When I have some more I'll do the inside of the glovebox. Bottom of the door bins is an interesting idea - might try it with an off cut and see how it looks.

As far as how much is needed, 1 sheet should do all the areas mentioned above - did the back of the rear seats and still have bits left.

OK, thanks for the info coysht :)

Just bought one so hopefully should be here in time to fit at the weekend.

Also made a small charity donation via the paypal payment so its all good :D

Well I went ahead and bought some more carpet/felt and did the mods I mentioned above.

Only picture I have at the moment is the glovebox:

Came out pretty good, although it seems the carpet has a definate 'grain' to it and looks different shades when you don't get every patch the same direction.

Will try and snap some more photos before too long.

That looks awesome, how long did it take? Don't worry about it looking different shades, I'd assume it'll be kept full most of the time?

Took all afternoon! But as you say, its full all the time - thats why it needed covering to stop things rattling.

Wow, that looks smart!

I think it looks really good - neat job.

I've just spent 2 hours hoovering my new car. I picked it up yesterday and I think the previous owner never bothered to clean it. The carpet is a complete !Removed! to clean. I can't understand why there is such a massive difference between my old Fiesta Titanium and the Zetec S in terms of the carpet. The titanium was a dream to hoover.

I wonder how much it would be to get the car re-carpeted with something that won't take all !Removed! day to hover!
