Ipod - Is It Possible To Get A Usb Installed?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm a new member to the forum so please be gentle!!

To keep it short and sweet, i have been driving a leased 2010 titanium fiesta with the bluetooth and usb/ipod connection kit fitted from new.

Today I bought a Jan 2009 fiesta zetec s and noticed it only had a jack connector and not a USB cable. However, what I didn't realise is that the USB connector may be in a different position to where it sits in my titanium. Some of the pics I have seen on the forum show the USB connector as being towards the rear of the handbrake. It was only through reading the threads that I noticed this!!

I pick the car up on Saturday so can't check until then if there is a USB.

Can anybody advise please if the USB connector is fitted as standard on the zetec sport model or is it an extra? The car definately does have bluetooth and there is a single jack point - but no USB at the front section. I never thought to check by the rear of the handbrake as I just didn't know the USB could potentially be there.

If there is no USB, how easy is it to get one retro- fitted by ford? I really do like my ipod in the car and would prefer to control it via the steering wheel and have it charged. It seems to be the better ipod solution rather than just the jack connection.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks.

Retro fitting tends to require a new Bluetooth module and the relevant fittings as well as a software update.

Probably costs around £250-300

Not sure I can live without the USB connector!! Looks like I'll need to get it booked in with Ford....

Thanks for the reply!

I'm don't think ford will undertake the retrofit themselves. You'll need to swap the module under the glovebox, fit the faceplate and cables and then take it to ford to update the software.

There is a big thread about retrofitting USB on here.

:o blimey...I've got no chance of doing this myself, hell I'd struggle to swap a lightbulb!

Has anybody actually done this themselves? I did read the threads but couldn't see if anybody ever went through with it.

If you know of any car audio 'experts' who cold do this work for me, could you let me know please? Willing to pay for the work!

I wonder why Ford wouldn't do it - there is obviously a demand for this....

Ford can do it - quoted me £400 at the time. Didn't take them up on the offer though

I spoke to 2 ford main dealers and both said it couldn't be done. Neither were of any help to be honest. Just goes to show they really don't know their own products!

Which ford garage did you get the £400 answer from if you don't mind me asking?
