Hi i have a 55 plate fiesta studio done 59000 miles regular serviced by previous owner...... 1st thing in a morning or when cold it sounds like a loud tappity noise once warmed up its not as loud but still there ? Do these have TAPPITS as they used to be called in older cars ..if not how do you cure this noise. ( otherwise car runs , starts geat nice and smooth drive other than the tappity noise

My grandad has a 07reg Fiesta 1.25 Studio 3drs, he has a tap noise like your Fiesta,he has covered 33000miles, he has owned Escort Specials, a 1980s Sierra with 49900miles he had for 6years but it was 3years old when he had, he had 3Escort Specials he had them for 9years or 49500miles,I am the owner of the Escort Sapphire and Equipe now and I have covered 98000miles in the 8years,the Sapphire was scrapped in March 2006 and Equipe in March 2007,he had both off me in March 2005,he bought a March 2006 Ford Fiesta 1.6 Style Auto 5dr for my gran and a 07 Fiesta 1.25 Studio 3dr for my grandad, but I have suffered with these problems on other cars I have owned

If its what I think it sounds like then mine does it as well but only for around a minute, I have put it down to the all aluminum engine being cold and the oil all being at the bottom of the motor, once warm mine is very quiet, I would have though that due to the low weight of everything it's all a bit up close and personal in there until it all gets warm and moves a bit. It's when it starts knocking all the time you need to change your underwear, you will find that the tap will last longer depending on outside temperature also as on a very cold day the worst of the noise will go away but even when just warm it will still do it, on warmer days it warms quicker and the tapping is no existent after less than 10-20 seconds. Sounds typical ford the more you look into any issue they all do it.

Oh and they have Bucket and shim tappets rather than hydraulic tappets and they are supposedly near silent in operation until the tolerances require adjustment 100k+ miles on the 1.4 if the manual is anything worth going by.
