To Much Oil

Featured Replies

During changing the oil i made the mistake of talking and not paying attention to the amount of oil i was putting in my Fiesta, Zetec, 04, 1.4

Ive let the oil set and level for a while but have not driven it,

Just measured on the dipstick and it is over the max mark by about an inch,

Should i drain the oil asap,

Cheers

Yes drain the oil , and don't start the car until you have correct level.

Cheers,

Only problem is i will need to take it to Kwik Fit to get it done tomorrow, about a 10 minute drive,

I've got work and wont have the time to drain it all off,

By having to drive it there will it cause air and possible foaming?

If so, what would you recommend?

Cheers

The problem is that it may cause too much pressure and blow out your crankshaft seals. This would leave you with a permanent leak and an expensive repair bill especially if you blow out the seal on the gearbox side.

I drove my ZS 2010 1.6 tdci to the garage with about the same overfil without any problems - my drive to the garage was 70 miles so I'm sure you will be ok.

Hmmm thought so, damn, simply case of draining and refilling or will more need to be done?

I would not take the risk, all maybe fine , but the moment it goes wrong you will wish you got the torch went out side and drained the excess oil out.

Yeah good point, ill just get up at the crack of dawn and sort it,

Any idea where the drainage value is loacted, not familiar with being under cars, it is literally a drain it below the max job and go on as normal or should i get the oil filter changed as well?

Cheers

Sump , bottom of engine , yes just remove excess oil , no need to change the filter. and make sure you don't drain too much out just keep checking , once complete check oil level in a few days make sure its ok.
