2007 Focus 1.8Tdci Sump Corrosion

Featured Replies

Hello, my car is only 4 years old and has not been near the coast. Just got it serviced today and they have advised that the sump has signs of corrosion and will need replacement soon. I have not verified this for myself but want to see if anybody has come across this. Find it very strange and not sure what material it is made of.

the sump should be made from pressed steel, it can rust but this would be rare, as your car got the under shield fitted?, if not the sump would be exposed to the elements.

The shield is present and has no damage. When I called another ford dealer the parts guy said he's seeing it as aluminum. I will have to take a look for myself and take it from there when I get a chance.

update on sump: it should have two parts upper alloy section and a lower steel section.
