Fuel Pump Causing Problems?

After posting a question about intermittently losing revs a couple of forum members have suggested a faulty fuel pump.

I'm going to talk to the garage tomorrow but wondered if anyone else has had a Fiesta Automatic that lost revs (drops from 1500 to nil and back or just by a couple of hundred then back - but never when the garage have it!) that had the problem fixed by replacing the fuel pump? My car is a 1997 model and has cost hardly anything to maintain until now but so far I've spent nearly £600 having parts replaced without the fault being fixed, so would like to see if anyone has had a similar situation.
