Hello Ladies & Gents,

it's Russ and I'M from the Colonies. I'M from New England but I spend my winters in sunny Florida.

Hard to best the weather 80 F today. Feels like summer. My home up north has 24" of snow, and

cold as cold can be.

I am enjoying my Ford Van, it's my mobile Living Room. Feels like resting at home in the back watching the Tele

and reclining in the leather chairs. I have a curtain that blocks my driver in the front seat.

I have my van soundproofed with Dynamat on the inside and outside on the bottom, and it's very quiet inside.

The Diesel has great power and works great, no major problems yet. Just oil changes and air filters.

I will be 20 miles off the coast of Florida tomorrow

fishing for the big ones. The Gulfstream is a wonderful thing to see. When you boat out to it

you can see the color of the ocean go from a light green to a dark blue. This is where the bottom

drops from 375 feet to 1500 feet. The fish are all over this area.

Best to all members here and a hello from Russ.

Hi Russ and welcome to the club.

Like someone else said, that's some engine you've got there plus a stunning array of kit fitted to it.

I especially like the captain's chairs and the telly / sound system--a real home from home--typical bloke thing!!

Super envious of you in Florida though--always wanted to go there but probably never will (I couldn't stomach the 12+ hour flight) so I guess I'll have to make do with all the piccies etc.

Know what you mean about the ocean colour changes--Janet and I were in Zante last year and visited some coves near the coast and as we got nearer to the edge the water changed colour to a beautiful bright blue--awesome sight I can tell you. Another great sight we witnessed was the giant turtles swimming calmly away next to the boat--you could almost reach out and touch them.

Guess that's why we'll be going back to Zante later this year............

hey All,

The water changes color because the bottom is about 375 feet, then it drops to 1500 feet, like a straight drop. It makes the water look green in the 375 part, then dark blue at the 1500 feet part. It's great because it's not a perfect line, it is like a long snake, but in the horizon it looks like a straight line. When you fish here we find large sections of seaweed, floating palm trees, driftwood, anything floating way out there will have plenty of fish under it. I noticed about 20 Sea Turtles, as the egg laying season nears May to Oct. , we will see many of the older grand, grand, grandmothers arrive early to lay the nest, some of the older experienced turtles will lay two clutch's of eggs. Late at night we see them come right up to the house and lay the eggs in the sand. it's incredible to see in person. I noticed many flying fish, dolphin, marlin, tuna, cuda, cobia, kings, so many great fish. If we catch one large tuna we can sell it for 3-5000.00 US to a broker in japan. They fly the fish in a seat on a commercial plane. They wrap them in a special body-bag type container that is packed with dry ice system. it's great because it pays for the 2000.00 in fuel we burn going out. When we catch a fish we label it with the GPS cor ordinations, so we can look it up on the computer at home and mark exactly where we caught it. We have a few special places with coral reef bottoms that is full of great fish, and we don't share the info with anyone. One place that we free dive with spears we discovered some old Spanish gold pieces and we go back there once or twice a year to try to find more. many people know about this place, so it's pure luck to find something. After a hurricane the bottom churns-up and it's a good time to look for gold. When I found mine it was on top of the sand, shining bright. I gave it to the local Museum to display with the rest of the booty. I'M not a treasure hunter, just a fisherman and outdoorsman. I have a great Captain, he takes great care of the boat and gear, he can catch any type fish, almost every time. There are so many knots, baits and methods to catch each type of fish. You don't just throw a worm on the hook and throw it in.

Ka-PoW!

Time to go to the beach,

later

Hi Russ,

Loving your adventures--it feels like we're there witnessing it all with you but saving the money.

It makes Janet and I's adventures in Zante look like a picnic in the park!!

Just keep those titbits flowing.........please!
