Anyone else had any problems with their heat shields. (the long one that goes the whole length of the car)

Ours got caught up in something and was pulled away from its mouting points just behind the cat - I tried poking it up in but to no avail because after a few days the rattle got worse!

Anyway, I've pulled off a bit of it to get rid of the worst of the damage but after a thorough inspection it seems to be bu**ered most of the way back. I am a bit reluctant to pull the rest of it off because there are one or two items underneath/next to it that it is protecting ie. the fuel tank being one.

I've not seen any on ebay and I'm sure a new one would cost an arm an leg to buy from Ford or elsewhere.

My question(s) are

Can I take it off and throw it and not put anything in place?

Should I replace it?

Can I get something else to cover the most vulnerable parts underneath?

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated - thanks
