Ford Fiesta 1.25- Car Sounds Like It Resets When Starting It Up. Please Help!

Featured Replies

Hi there,

i have a 1.25 LX FORD FIESTA

Recently i have found that when i start my car- it will start but not without the car sounding as if it resetting the petrol and engine electronic levels will reset....i'm wondering if this is something to worry about? isit the cold weather ?

Thanks

Godlieb

I would get the battery tested and check the earthing points under the bonnet. Cold and/or damp weather causes all sorts of issues.

I'm with him ^^ :)

I've just changed the battery on my Fiesta, same engine as you and our problems sound really similar. You can probably find my post if you search my username, the car would run fine once started but it was hard to crank and the battery was losing charge slowly over the course of an hour or so. As you can imagine if I parked the car and came to start it early morning while it's close to freezing, she stuttered and was difficult to start. Once the car started, my dials would test themselves, my trip counter reset and my radio needed a code.

These cars are equipped with a really clever ECU which learns the best settings for the climate you're in. My car would run really bad and would struggle to idle, but after driving a few miles it cleared itself and obviously my ECU had adjusted again.

As btmarldon said, check your earth points and check your battery. Get a multimeter, and write down the voltage, disconnect the negative lead (10mm spanner) and lock the car as normal. Before starting it the next day, check your voltage again and if you find there's been a large decrease then it's your battery mate. Mine cost £38 online and I'd be happy to give you a link, it's a calcium battery too (and according to my dad, that's better!) :)

Guys Many Thanks, really appreciate it . I'm a uni student and being a complete novice within the mechanical world aint good usually leads to panicing! but the information submitted is completely understandable so thanks again. Dan that link would hugely be grateful .

Regards,

David

Hi David,

Sorry about the late reply mate only just been able to get online.

The battery I bought was £38.50 to be exact, and it can be found here

The price is all inclusive and it includes next day delivery via courier.

It's a nice easy job changing the battery and all you need is a 10mm socket - if you have a Ford headunit in the car you'll need a code to unlock it once the battery is replaced, but if you haven't got it one of the members here will be able to sort you out a code (me included :D)

All the best,

Dan
