Poor Build Quality

Featured Replies

Had my MK7 Zetec s tdci for a few months now and more and more rattles are starting to really bug me, dash, something in passenger doors, something in rear passenger and something from boot area. Really starting to wind me up and after 3 x focus, 1 x escort, 1 x mondeo and 1 x fiesta without issue on any of them i end up with something that i am serious jacked off about and to top it off the power is not the same compared to my last 58 plate tdci. Anyone else driving something that feels like its been thrown together and gaffer tape being the main component holding it together?

Title changed - while the language used was certainly not x-rated, I didn't feel it was in the spirit of the forum, which is one of the cleanest you'll read on the net.

Mine, also a 60 plate, is starting to develop some minor noises now. I think one of them is simply stuff in the glovebox that I need to rearrange, but there's another from the around the drivers side tiny front window, and also the whole passenger side door pocket with certain music on. Most of it's drowned out by the radio/music normally but when it's turned off they're quite noticeable!

I have a wee rattle coming from the passenger door but doesn't bother me...I used to have a mk4 transit with screws underneath the wooden floor, if I can withstand the noise that made then a little rattle from the car wont bother be in the slightest.

I've got a rattle from the passenger side, drives me nuts when I have music on because it spoils it >_>

Yup over the last few months my (60 plate) fiesta has developed 3 new rattles. 2 dash - 1 over the gauges and 1 from over the centre console, and the third from the rear somewhere.

This is of course on top of the creaky boot.

Kinda annoying but hasn't pee'd me off yet. They're not all at the same time so thats something I guess.

I had a couple of rattles (driver's door trim and door mirror) but the dealer has sorted them ok. It's fine at the moment - which I think is pretty good as thus is the worst time of year for rattles as all the plastic shrinks.

Having come from a Land Rover, the Fiesta feels like it's built really well and feels very strong anyway!

I have a 61 plate and the only rattle I have is the passenger wing but can only hear it when outside the car on tickover

I play music in the car, rattles - what rattles? :P

Mine has been like that from new, it's 9 months old now. My rear window rattles, the silver dial surround is loose and rattles and my front O/S wheel makes a knocking noise when going over bumps. The car only has 3000 miles on the clock, I'm going to VT the finance and hand it back.

I did fix the creaky boot, turned out to be the foam holder creaking against the boot floor.

no longer have a fiesta , but my 09 mk7 had rattles from the passenger door and both front pillars , the door was'nt that bad but the pillars were very anoying ,they rattled away everytime i went over any rough road , managed to rid the sound with a bit of foam squashed into the gaps.

Had the door rattles on two Mk7's. There is a known issue with the window rattling when it is wound down to a certain point. Not as much of an issue in winter. Thus far I have had a temporary fix from Ford, which is to 'pack' the door.

I have also had a rattle from the A pillars, which is also solved by being 'packed'.

The 95ps engine in the Zetec S is also terrible in the cold. Feels like a bag of spanners.

Rattles developed from boot door so !Removed! off now going to look at BMW 1 series tomorrow, it was a toss up between the BMW and fiesta and chose the fiesta as have been a ford man for the last 16 years, not anymore as cant believe such simple little things like these rattles are not rectified and many are suffering from them. The saying you get what you pay for couldnt be more true.

I also have somehow similar issues...not that excited about owning it as I was before...

I also have some strange noise coming from the dashboard or windscreen...especially when the car is in the 5th gear and the speed is not that high.

What can I do now...just have to live with it for a while :)

Anyway, don't forget...there are also pluses.

Tato you state not to forget the pluses well heres my list of pros and cons of my mk 7 zetec s tdci in frozen white with blue interior.

Pros

looks very smart

quieter drive than my 58 plate zetec s tdci

Cons

worse MPG even when driving like miss daisy

less grunt and power delivery than my 58 plate zetec s tdci

Rattles from dash, passenger door, reap passenger seat area and also boot door even at almost 5 mph

squeaking from front wheels

drone from engine at anything over 75 mph

could live with the mpg issue and engine noise but cant live with the rattles as its only 14 months old and will only get worse, really dissapointed in build quality so going to get rid and get a BMW one series as its better on build quality and power and mpg very similar.

By the way, do you find the car rigid?

I'm not overly impressed, either!

My April 09 car, owned from new, has been well looked after & covered only 14,000 miles. Many rattles & creaks, some of which began at only a few weeks old. Dealer was useless at fixing under the "full" first year's warranty. Eventually fixed the rattling "A" pillar trim myself after dealer said nothing wrong - I packed with carpet underlay, sorted - ditto for rattle from the cover over the light sensor on the windscreen behind the mirror.

Most annoying of the many rattles which remain are those from the nearside door panel which vibrates in time to the bass from the speaker (& I don't play music particularly loud) & an extremely annoying intemittent rattle from the back of the car which sounds like a dessert spoon rattling against the bodywork.

Tailgate sometimes unlocks itself, stereo has its own ideas about what it feels like doing today - sometimes I can't get any sound at all, MP3s played via USB can "click" & freeze, won't play some tracks etc. If there's a CD in the drive & the stereo is turned off, when I unlock the car the stereo sometimes turns itself on & starts playing the CD. Reminds me of the film "Christine"...

Covers keep coming off the front seats & fabric on driver's seat is already badly creased.

Additionally my car has something against going backwards as it's frequently very difficult to select reverse gear - & when I think it's in & gently engage the clutch the car doesn't go anywhere but emits a horrible whizzing grating noise which doesn't stop as soon as I dip the clutch.

Mirrors also "squeal" when folding electrically.

Most worrying issue though is intermittent engine cutting out - can happen at any time at any speed, in any gear, when engine warm. Very frightening when it happens on the motorway. Started at 3 months old - been to two different dealers on 6 occasions, neither can "fault" as no warning lights come on hence no fault code stored - last time it was in for 4 days. Engine cuts 3 or 4 times in rapid succession, car jerks violently then recovers. Isn't due to cheap fuel as I always use only Shell, BP or Esso.

Car looks great, doesn't cost a lot to run, drives very well (when it works...) & has decent performance. But ownership experience is ruined by shoddy build. My last Ford was a 1982 Cortina, sold on in 1988. Bought Fiesta on basis of my Dad's brilliant 2002 Focus which he owned from new, Focus is well built, doesn't rattle & has never had any problems.

Very disappointed with my Fiesta.

Mine is now on Autotrader and take delivery of BMW 1 series this week, to top it off what finally made up my mind was reseting the MPG then hitting the motorway and sticking at 60 MPH and only getting 51 MPG.

I have the same annoying problem...and to be honest it's one of the worst thing with this car.

Well get a dealer to fix it then!!

Well get a dealer to fix it then!!

What should they do, redesign the car? Did they fix yours?

Took delivery of 1 series BMW, yes the MPG isnt as good but the difference in build quality is like man utd (bmw) and accrington stanley (Fiesta), sold fiesta and after being a ford man for 16 years will not be returning, BMW have converted me. driving the fiesta after te BMW rally showed up the diffence on a huge scale.
