Has Anyone Mentioned Mod's To The Insurance???

Featured Replies

Rang my insurance company today hoping for a reduction after fitting the DRL's then to tell them about the rest of the modifications and hopfully the reduction on the DRL's would cancel out the hike on the other Mods and my poilcy fee would remain as was before i rang, :D

But to my surprise:

rear badge light,

additional reverse light,

additional boot light,

E Marked DRL's that dim when full lights are active

apparently

''Sorry Lenny some insurance companys do recognise DRL's as a safety feature but they wont bring your Insurance down any cheaper with us because our company doesnt yet recognise them as a safety feature and lights of any description fitted to your vehicle are not classed as a Modification but must road compliant''

ST Pod with Gauges

''If the Gauges dont enchance the performance of the engine in any way, they do no effect your policy''

ST Rear Spoiler

''No Change to your policy'' Basically anything that enchances the engines performace will need to be notified to us immedieatly, but anything cosmetic or lights providing they are in compliance with the law we dont see any problem, and do not need to be reported to us''

so all declaired and no change to my policy, to be honest im annoyed the insurance company doesnt recognise DRL's as a safety feature, since the Road safety are trying to bring them in to law and say they are a safety feature,

but on the plus side they didnt put my insurance up by anything for declaring the other modifications neither so Happy days B)

This is what I thought, I don't see why they'd charge you for stuff like this its not performance based. Worst case the insurance company just wont pay for these and just put stock ones back on. for example if someone smashed your rear bumper off they'd put stock bulbs & fog lights back in it.

I'm sure the guy saying £40 an item was getting some commission out of it.

My home location pushes my policy up but my works car park (where my car seems to spend most of it's time) as it's very secure brings it back down again.

Although you're saying your car is at work more. Does it not matter where you put it down as?

My insurance this year my car is registered at my mums house but I put down it's sometimes at my dads house which knocked it down by £100 although I've also put down I'm away at uni so basically it should be down as my car is all over the show.

for example if someone smashed your rear bumper off they'd put stock bulbs & fog lights back in it.

Stop talking like that, you will give me nightmares

OOps. Double Post

Direct Line wanted £70 extra off me if I tinted the rear windows. So I fitted blinds instead which they were quite happy about. Rip Off Britain!!

I'm with Direct line , so far there has been no charge for all my lighting mods.

I guess window tinting is reducing visability

I looked through a factory fit Focus tinted and a second hand Focus with applied tints the other day , both seemed the same form out side , but inside i could see much more out of the factory fitted tints than the stick on version.

Hi, I fancied putting on a zetec s rear spoiler and skirts on my focus titanium so I phoned my insurance (Hastings ) just to check if it would affect my premium, was told by the lady on the phone that they would not insure the car if I did this, so on hold for now, just to warn others that if you do not declare the mod, you could end up uninsured if in an accident.

I have an ST/Zetec S rear spoiler declaired and it has made no difference,

also plan to fit the rest of the zetec S kit before December, hopfully wont change then either. sorry to read you have had to put yours on hold mate.

which insurance are you with Lenny, might change insurance

which insurance are you with Lenny, might change insurance

Im with Zurich Insurance got them through AA Insurance mate,

AA sold me the insurance.

my last car was a 1.3 toyota starlet and i was with Quinn Direct, i changed the body to a Glanza replica and rang them up to declare it, they also said it made no change to the policy mate,

so their are two places worth trying for a quote.
