Are Backlight Ford Bonnet/boot Badges Road Legal?

Featured Replies

Well are they?

rear badge yes

once its red when you brake

or

white when you reverse

it cant be any other colours like blue or green for road use and it cant illuminate white when your driving foward.

front badge can be white illumination only,

but would be a difficult one to connect due to the lock being behind the badge.

Exactly right.

So I could splice it into my brake/tail light or reverse light then?

So I could splice it into my brake/tail light or reverse light then?

yes,

the brake light feed is easier to splice that the reverse light.

but you will just need a positive feed from both because you can splice in to the reg plate negative feed.

i know you have a fiesta and this guide is for a focus but the principals are the same have a look http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/26746-guide-to-fit-a-focus-rear-badge-light/

If I can do it anyone can.

It looks really smart when finished.

I see that is spliced the the brake light, but will it also work "always on" if spliced to tail light or is that not legal?

You can splice it directly to the running lights if you want to, as long as it's the correct colour there is no legal problems at all.

One of my close oppos is a Traffic Bike Officer and when i showed mine to him in both configurations (linked to running lights and brake light) he thought they looked cool - no better endorsement for me.

Where do u get these??

How do they work? On your break lights?

You can either wire to the plate lights so they come on with other lights or run a live feed from your third brake light and earth to the plate lights for activation with the brakes.

How do they work? On your break lights?

yes just splice in to the positive feed on the brake light, easiest one is the rear spoiler one,

and for dual led models then splice the white light positive feed to the reverse feed

then earth it to the earth on the reg plate light feed.

job done.

jam the hoover head and pipe between the front seat of the car and the brake pedal,

this will activate the brake light for you to see the finished results.

I think this looks awesome - Is it possible to get a Ford badge with the "Ford" bit see through so that the light shines through that as well as around the outside edge?

I did see some badges on eBay where the blue had been removed to make the badges semi transparrent but i don't believe they are available any more.
