you miss the point the clutch is easy they have to strip the gearbox remove the casing to get to the gear mechanism strip that to get to the bearing its a big job and labour will be 600 or more id call and get some qoutes but it sounds as if youve underestimated the work involved

i'll probably leave it then

Would it be cheaper than getting the input shaft done?

depends you can buy a second hand box and have the same issues it wont be cheaper as theres the cost of removing the old box then removing the old but new clutch swap them over with the box you just bought have the oil checked then have that box fitted so its not going to be that much cheaper a decent second hand box is around £300 a recon box is at least double that amount if you can do any of that work youreself youll save a smal fortune

yeah, maybe it will be the end of my car then, when the bearing eventually dies, just dunno when the bearing will die

they wont need to touch the clutch if they are just swapping gearboxes..

thats true only problem is you dont know what youre getting get some qoutes you may find a garage that will do it cheaper

Most companies that do reconditioned units will usually take your old box as part exchange.

UPDATE: Still not fixed. Dont think its the input shaft bearing anymore, as although not completly quiet, it is near silent at idle. Been about 5,000mi since last update and it has got worse, by a little. It must be something else. What do you reckon?
