Hi all hoping you can help me out with my 1.4 mk 1, it runs sweet at high revs, rev too low and it jerks. I have taken it to my dad (ex mechanic and mk2 owner) and within 5 mins of a drive round town he has concluded spark plugs or ht leads, a google search has suggested possible coil pack needed.

I am taking it too my dad tomorrow to get it checked over in the light (if it's plugs I will fit platinum, leads are a maintenance item etc)

Anyone any other suggestions of what it could be? Suffered the same thing?

If it is plugs then I would just fit genuine ford plugs, the mk1 seems to take offence to everything else

Does it feel like its misfiring or down on power?

I would say in my limited experience more like misfire, all but low revs are fine and it has plenty of power. My fiat did the low on power thing and it is nothing like that

im not sure what the ford plugs are mate but they are about £12 from the dealer

i know the feeling mate, ended up laying laminate flooring today as i couldnt get on with changing plugs and pencil coils for someone due to the rain :(

It's a total pain, my dad helps me out with these things, might have to leave the car with him one day when I am at work

Laminate flooring your a brave man, last time I did that I kept saying who put that door frame there hehe. That said I developed a master yoda type skill of laying a piece next to the bottom frame sawing the frame then taping out with a small chisel, comes out very neat. My work was so beautiful I revisit it every now and again to stand in admiration. My last DIY disaster ended with me tearing down a bathroom wall while chiseling off some tiles to re-tile, never easier working with plasterboard.

The bug has caught again i'm off to walk around with a philips and see if any screws are lose :)

I think genuine plugs are made by motorcraft and aren't too expensive for a standard plug. I have also heard NGK are fine to use but a bit more costly I think I'd stick with genuine ones as I think fords are not to forgiving of much else.
