Focus Virgin Looking For A Little Help On Rear Wiper

Featured Replies

Hi All

Focus virgin coming across from a Rover 45

Just purchased a MK1.5 2003 Zetec which has a minor issue which the previous owner had his garage attempt cure but apparently no luck .

The rear wiper stops working on occasion and the roof lining is currently not correctly seated by the the tail gate rubber seal.

I was looking in the dark when i got it home from picking it so not the best conditions but how does the roof lining attach are they normally glued ?

The foam and the fabric have separated so i do i need to glue that back together and whats the best adhesive to use if needed?

i've done some research on both the roof lining and this intermittent wiper issue but not really much joy apart from the wires can break from rubbing against the roof.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

My old focus (2001) suffered from the sagging lining near the tailgate - I just left if though.

As for the wiper, it could well be a broken wire inside the rubber part that goes between the tailgate and the body of the car.

I agree with the diagnosis of a broken wire.

It's a very common problem.

The other options could be a duff relay or wiper motor but I do think the wire is your first stop.

For the loose roof lining try some spray carpet glue or even double sided tape.

Hi firstly can't believe how quick you guys responded thank very much!

Stoney871 Great & simple solution with the carpet spray didn't think of that lol ! thanks

Do you know if the loom to the wiper is easy to replace i have read the wiring goes down the passenger side light cluster from memory so is it a case of a plug and short run of loom to the motor?

I only picked it up yesterday evening just few niggles need sort some the paint chips ,scratch on passenger airbag cover not sure if i should replace it or leave its no biggy , always had rovers pretty much but enough is enough and the wife is sick of me spending money on head gaskets.

Thanks again both :)

The best option for the wire is to pull the rubber. tube out of its socket and take a look.

You'll feel the broken wires quite easily or even see the cable parted.

Cut the broken ends back a bit as they tend to go black and corroded.

Crimp or solder in a patch and see how you go from there.

Sometimes getting the rubber pipe back on to the seal can be a pig as the plastic collar is free floating but if you stick your hand up from behind and just in between the roof lining and roof you can get better control of it.

the sagging lining can be an indication of water from the washer hose leaking into the car it fits in the rubber on the rear hatch if you look youll see you can pull a flap of the rubber up and this is where the lining fits into if it wont stay up theres not really much you can do other than clea silicone or 3m tape to hold it in place

Hi guys thanks again and sorry for the delay replying

The the wiper is a job for today , i did noticed the other the tube had popped of and connected it back together but when used the washer yesterday it it leaked all over the parcel shelf so im going to unscrew the jet and go from there.

Off topic question do the rear drums on these comes off easily or do i need a puller of some sort? think the rear shoes are shot.

Thanks

The rear drums can be tough to remove - it depends on how much they have worn and how deep the lip on the inside is. The best way to remove them so you don't need to touch the hub nut I'd to undo the 4 bolts on the rear that hold the stub axle on.
