Bonnet Wont Close

Hi guys my 2006 1.4 has had this problem sporadically. Just solved the problem. The mechamism has been cleaned and works fine it`s just the very fine tolerances change as the car gets older. Quick fix. Forget the mechanism itself. Just unbolt the 4 bolts on the bonnet itself holding the "catcher" or hook. and slide a thin washer behind the plate onto the screw end of the bolt. Re tighten and bingo!

Problem is the hook does not travel far enough down to quite catch the mechanism. Try it..

Lifesaver dude - been having a nightmare getting my 2005 fester MOT ready..   idle too high (split breather pipe), p1025 leaky thermostat...   and the bonnet wouldn't shut. I had to sit on the damn bonnet for it to shut.   Like yours I think it must have pushed the mechanism down a bit?

I took the hook off and used washers to lower it, and now it shuts fine just by dropping the bonnet!    beats paying £50 for a latch and more for it to be fitted!

Hey Guys,

Had the same problem on my Mrs motor. Really easy fix- less than two minutes I would say. Just loosen the two latch bolts (the ones at the front on the plastic bulkhead) pull the latch all the way to the top (it is a slotted hole) tighten up the bolts, hey presto. Here is a link to a video of a guy showing how to.
