Is there a way to make the bonnet release on a Focus a SENSIBLE one with a pull under the dash, rather than the "AARRGGHHHHH!!!!" inducing Ignition Key one?

Yeah, I was looking for SVA approved ones, and the flat ones with handles look the best. meanwhile I have to get the *four letter word alluding to a lady's front bottom* to open on the key, and the ke

Is there a way to make the bonnet release on a Focus a SENSIBLE one with a pull under the dash, rather than the "AARRGGHHHHH!!!!" inducing Ignition Key one?

I was looking into this on the cmax but had to get rid of the car in the end. It is possible but requires a fair amount of work. You can remove the bonnet lock assembly and replace it with one from a car like a fusion or mondeo, it would then need to be welded on in the right place.ypu then need to make a hole through the firewall and feed a release cable and it's sheath through there and attack it to the primary release on the bonnet catch, and then fit an internal release on the inside, you might need to weld this on the inside or bolt it onto place. You will need to adjust the length of the cable and test it.

It is doable but not the easiest to accomplish but would be well worth it.

Hmm.... Or I suppose there the option of just throwning the whole damned thing away and using locking bonnet pins. ;)

I also explored that option :-D

I also explored that option :-D

Anything come of it?

I was tossing and turning but favouring the new release mechanism. Bonnet pins would definitely have worked, but it's best to get the flat handle style with keys to unlock as a protruding pin could be an mot failure. My car was crashed into and exchanged a short while before I started the conversion.

Yeah, I was looking for SVA approved ones, and the flat ones with handles look the best. meanwhile I have to get the *four letter word alluding to a lady's front bottom* to open on the key, and the key won't even *four letter word alluding to 2 people doing something very intimate* TURN!! *Word alluding to Child born out of wedlock*!

*sigh*

Haha loving the substitutes lol.

Press down above the catch at the same time and you should stand the best chance

I've tried that, too. I fear the Angle Grinder option will be the only way forward, because as useful as the "How To" is in the Guides section it doesn't seem to apply to the Mk1, which has a box around the back of the lock mechanism. There's a Youtube vid of someone just drilling the son of a *word meaning Canine Female* out, but I'm not sure how far to drill!!

It could be cheaper to take it to ford, otherwise you will have to replace the bonnet. On a plus side, you would have a bonnet to practice drilling through for the pins lol

I KNEW I should have kept my old Mercedes 190E! That was almost indestructable!! :(

Sadly the focus weak point is the lock, ford will charge about 300 to fix....

Yeah, no wonder the f**king things are so "Combustable" :/

I would get ford to do it if your going for replacement, but if your going to do yourself the job, I would definitely look for the replacement though, depending how long you want to keep the car.

Given that the car was only 200 quid I think lobbing out 150% of purchase price just for the bonnet release is a teeny bit OTT. The guy opened the bonnet before I drove it away, so I KNOW the *Word meaning child born out of wedlock* WORKS! :( *sulk*

Do I REALLY need to resort to THIS??

I think if you spent that little on it, it's worth beating it! Even if you destroy and disintegrate it, you can then put the pin setup on it.

I'm open to offers of help.
