Insurance Query

Featured Replies

can someone clear this query up

can someone who has fully comp insurance drive my car with me (who is the owner and is named on the insurance for the car) in the car at the same time?

my m8 may be getting a focus as a company car but wants to try mine out before he makes his decision,

He needs to check his insurance policy to see if it says he can drive other cars not belonging to him and not registered to another member of his household. If he has that then yes he can providing the car he is driving is already insured in its own right.

the only other insurance he has is on his current company car, (which is up for renewal to possibly a focus)

It all depends on his insurance policy, on some it says:

"The policy holder may also drive a motor vehicle that is not registered to him, or hired to him under a hire purchase agreement",

this however will only give him third party cover, so if he smashes your car up during the test drive, you won't get it repaired

ok cheers guys ill have a word with him, i could always take it to a private carpark and let him drive on there

The problem with so called 'Private' car parks is that the highway code still applies, the way the law see it is that anywhere where there is public access is classed a public highway, so it still contravenes the road traffic act.

One other alternative is for him to take out a one day insurance for your car, it might cost him about £30-40 but at least you'll be totally legal

The alternative is to book a formal test drive at a dealer ad no cost full insurance and no problems

Ok guys ita all sorted now he managed to get a test drive with the leasing company

Thanks for the advice

best answer, insurance is no worry, and he gets all the spiel that goes with it, and when he gets back, you can correct the rubbish that the dealer spouted so he has the actual full picture :D
