Fiesta Mk6 Clutch Problem..

Featured Replies

Hello world im needing some advice. for a few months now when i push my clutch in it makes like a click noise everyone said it was nothing. Well yesterday that nothing that every one said turned into a shamefull breakdown in bad traffic lucky i had my mum with me to help push it off the road.. my clutch just had no spring in it. it just went straight to the floor. i managed to get my grandad to tow me back home which was scary seeing as im only 22 and it was the first time i had to do it. HAHA well i had a proper look at it today and there was like a rod that was just dangling down doing nothing and on my clutch there was a bar sticking out so i thought it was suppose to be attatched to that so put the rod thing back on my clutch and i can now get it back into gear and i can also drive it but im just unsure whether it is safe to drive it? and what is the actuall problem of it? iv had my Fiesta 1.25 05 plate for a year and half and iv never really had any problems with it apart from both of my front springs had snapped. any info would be really great.

Thankyou....

Lee....

That rod hanging down is the problem, its a common fault, it was probably just glue holding that rod to the pedal, have a look in the fiesta section you will find many a fix for that, i have seen many talk about using jubilee clips on it or cable ties, luckily mine hasnt done it yet, and also next time you would best to post in the fiesta forum you will get a better bite. Nothing too nightmare-ish wrong if thats the case anyway.

Sounds like the slave cyclinder... When my clutch went after a drive back from Devon to Reading in my Fiesta ST. The clutch totally went at approx 59k mileage... It took the mechanic 6 hours to get to the clutch, change it and the slave cyclinder etc... Because itnis such a big job. I brought a new clutch for my car. To this day it is sound. Touch wood.

P.s Check your clutch fluid... if low. That is defo the problem...

There is no reason why the actuating rod would detach from the pedal if it was the cylinder and you would usually have another symptom such as low hydraulic fluid and or soft brake or clutch pedal, i might be wrong but i suspect that a 25p clip will have her fighting fit again.

Welcome to the family Lee, take a llook around the Fez section, there are more than enough threads there that should help you go about repairing things!

Hi yeah I had the same problem goto ebay and serch for fiesta clutch pedal clip, I fitted the ring that's listed and problem solved for good cost less than £20 oh the clip the dealer sell didn't work for me it failed again. Trust me the ebay one is perfect.

Believe it or not I had the same problem fixed today. I'd managed to get an RAC patrolman to help me out, but essentially due to a design fault the slave cylinder rod will detach from the clutch pedal without any prior warning, causing the pedal to lose all resistance and go flat on the floor of the vehicle..

The RAC patrolman said this was overly common in fords, within two minutes he'd fitted a genuine ford 'star washer' to the clutch and since then I've had no issues (touch wood) I'd go to the dealer and specifically ask for the washer..

It only cost about 40p and approx 2 minutes of your time to do, then hey presto, clutch is as good as new!

Hope that helps!

My Mother had a similar problem on her Fusion 3.

The clutch pedal itself detached from it's bracket on one side so when she pressed the pedal the bracket lifted, thus not depressing the cylinder fully.

Go to your ford dealer and ask for these cir clips they're only 60p each, put a couple of them on your car to stop it from happening again

does the car need to be jacked up to refit the clutch pedal.

or is a jack not high enough to get to the clutch pedal

Hi everyone I have a problem with my clutch on a ford fiesta 2004 that has been going on now for about 3 years. I havnt had it checked because I know it will cost an arm and a leg and I found a quick way to fix it just by bleading the system so I just never got around to seeking out the problem. So what happens is I can be driving around the streets just doing 30 or 40 mph and the clutch works fine. But the second I go onto a motorway and do 50mph or above the clutch just goes week with no pressure flat to the floor and won't go into any gear. Sometimes if I come off the motorway and go back to driving at 30mph or 40 the clutch works fine but is abit tuff to get into gear. What I end up doing is getting it home and bleading the clutch fluid replacing it with fresh new oil and the clutch works fine until I go back do 50 mph or above then I've got no pressure again an have to pull over to bleed it again. I initially thought it was the slave or master slender so I replace the master cylinder on the clutch pedal but didn't bother with the slave inside the gear box. However I also thought was the slave cylinder leaking but everytime I open the fluid reservoir the fluid level is still where it should be so there obviously isn't a leak. My thoughts are there is air getting in when I travel at a certain speed but where from I do not know. So for the past 3 year every time my clutch goes flat after driving at a certain speed I come home and replace the fluid. It's got to the point now I'm changing the clutch fluid about every 3 days now and it's getting so annoying and I just can't find anything on the Internet to help me. When I replace the fluid I would expect air bubble coming down the tube but there doesn't even seem to b any air getting in. Any thoughts guys because I'm at my whits end and I love my car but lately I'm thinking it's costing me more money in dot4 fluid per week than its worth.

This sounds similar to my sisters 2004 fiesta 1.4tdci. When she had it for about a year it started doing this. I thought it must have dodgy master cylinder so I changed it. But this made no difference although we didn’t know for a few weeks as she doesn’t often drive more than a couple of miles. Over a few months I bled it again, but when it does this (loses all pressure) it did not need bleeding to fix it, just let it cool down push the pedal down a few times and it would suddenly be ok again. But sometimes I did bleed it just in case that mended it.It did not lose fluid so I didn’t see how it could be slave cylinder. In the end she took it to a garage and had whole new clutch including slave and it’s been ok for  a year. So I never knew quite what it was causing it. I would like to have been there and seen the parts but that wasn’t practical. I’m still intrigued by it , I just don’t understand what the problem was.

Ps, in case anyone thinks this was a problem with the master cylinder rod coming off the pedal peg, it was not. It was firmly fixed on . The peg had been drilled and split pin through it to be sure.
