Spot The Differences, What Are These Things?

Featured Replies

If you look at the pics in the red circles, both from 1.4 TDCI engines.

What is the probe in the hose for? (temp sensor?)

And what is the extra stuff left of the square block a bit further in the inlet?

I see some 1.4 TDCI's have it but some don't. Searched the internet but can't find what the 2 extra things are.

So if anybody knows please share it cause i'm very curious about it. I also have the extra thingies so it would be nice to know what they're for.

To answer my own question (as nobody seems to know or care ;) ), dug a little deeper.

The ring around the hose with the sensor is the temperature sensor.

The square block aside the other square blok is the gasvalve or in this case of a diesel, the airvalve.

Remains the question why some have them and some don't.

Maybe something to do with the Euro 4 class or maybe something totally different but the why isn't as important as the what and the what has been answered ^_^ .

We care we just didn't know but we do now

To be more specific, if you have a electronic EGR you will have a throttle valve. This is according to Ford but they're a bit vague, they also claim that's for a car without a DPF but i had a DPF and also had the throttle valve so not all Ford says is true ;) .

The throttle valve will limit the airflow when the engine is cold to suck in more exhaust gasses through the EGR. It also helps the engine stop without the typical diesel after judder. The throttle closes and opens immediatly again when you stop the engine.

If the IAT isn't at the location on the pic it can also be integrated in the MAF.

Again answered my own question so any own else searching the same thing will know ;) .

is this the same engine as in the 1.4 hdi 206? the dv4 i think? 68hp

Yes it will be....

It is indeed.

The difference between no throttle or throttle is also Euro -3 or Euro-4. Because Euro-4 is cleaner it has the electronic EGR and the throttle. Euro-3 can do with the vacuum EGR and no throttle because it's allowed more NOX.
