calk786
I have a 2013 Ford Focus Petrol 1.6l engine and it reads at 26.2 mpg which is very low. I have to fill up every so often and it is very costly to do so. Tyre pressure is right, and driving is good as keeping in idle sometimes to help increase the mpg but still low. Regular town and dual carriageway use
Swiftfocus69
First reply ,so here goes . Is this actually your MPg scroll through your info screen and you`ll see one image/setting ( i think there are 4 different ones ) find the one with a little pump sign at the side this is the one i use it`s from the last time you filled up .i`m getting 45.6mpg on a 2011 zetec 1.
theduke
how on earth are you getting 45mpg in a 1.6 petrol, i get about 33mpg town and dual carriageways. 26mpg seems quite bad do you drive it like you stole it?
artscot79
the real life mpg for this car is 38mpg so youre quite a bit below that however like always its dependant on how you drive and where you drive for town and dual carriageway ide expect more than that i have a 2006 ti vct 1.6 and get 38-40mpg driving 10 miles to work and 10 miles back on b roads with hills
STEADS
Do you reset all the settings after you have filled up I,e the average (live) average speed ,average overall and the trip count if you don't you will get an inaccurate reading . Try it next time you top up and I think you will notice a difference.
calk786
how do i reset the setting? and i drive as careful as possible most of the time and put it in neutral it to save on fuel. Ridiculous mpg i'm getting; cost too much on petrol like this
STEADS
You should be able to toggle through the menu and reset the relevant screen by a button/switch on the indicator stalk if its the same as the mk2.5 Say go tho average mpg then hold the button in till it has reset then reset the rest if you do this after every top up you will get a truer reading of your fuel consumption . slartibartfast
press and hold the button on the end of the indicator stalk to reset settings. when you say you put it in neutral to save fuel, what do you mean, as when going downhill, it is better to leave it in gear with no throttle, as that uses no fuel at all! Swiftfocus69
If its a 2013 then your buttons are on the righthand side of the steering wheel
Mr Singh
youll find that if you stay in gear rather than knocking it neutral your mpg wont drop. ill explain. you knock it in to neutral and your instant MPG reading will read 99.9 MPG, if you stay in gear and come off the throttle the instant MPG will also read 99.9 MPG. basically the engine is shutting the injectors and its allowing the inertia of being in gear to keep the engine turning. Google hypermileing and youll find that it says to stay in gear rather than coast
calk786
theres no button on the side so cant reset it; its a zetec focus 2013 and only sticks on side of steering wheel is indicator and wiper and cant push them in so i dont know where; ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WATER GOES IN THE CAR ENGINE OR IS IT COOLANT? BIT NEW TO THIS
theduke
dont put any water in your engine! only use water mixed with coolant for radiator and water with screenwash for washers
Preee
Control your looking for is on the steering wheel , not a stalk , left side stereo , right side for trip computer, you use the four way thumb control to navigate through the trip computer , once on average miles you can hold to reset. your manual will tell you exactly what to do. jeebowhite
Nanak, watch your tone! That was an unnecessary response, certainly portrayed that way from where I am sitting. People who are new to cars need to take time to get to understand it, I personally see it as a compliment that questions such as these are asked by us, because it means junior members and persons new to the game of motoring are seeking the wisdom of those experienced. Normally within the engine bay you have the following: 1) LHS - Washer bottle - for all the screenswash 2) LHS - Brake and clutch fluid 3) LHS - Power steering fluid 4) LHS / Central - Reservoir for Coolant 5) Engine Block - oil I am not familiar with the 2013 focus so cant say if the above is 110% reflective, but it is the same pattern for most cars. Have a look at the manual though for further advice, as that points out where in the engine bay each of these are. if its a 2013, I wouldn't be worrying too much about these fluids straight away, so dont pressure yourself into checking and identifying these immediately, you can take your time and browse and get the feel for the car and under the hood :)
Mr Singh
sorry jeebowhite. its a pet hate of mine, asking something that a quick flick through the manual can answer
theduke
Maybe RTM would have been a better response :D
