Changing 4000 Radio/cassette For Sony Unit In 2000 Focus

I took out the ford 4000 unit expecting to be able to just plug in the Sony unit that had fitted straightforwardly into a similar age citroen. Unfortunately the wiring plugs are completely different. Has anyone got any experience of this. Is it a matter of getting some adaptors or do I need to take the wires out individually?

Or do I get a ford cd player?

any wisdom much appreciated!
