Split Turbo Pipe Help

Featured Replies

Hi guys long time no speak moved back to my old focus from the fiesta st good to be back. Driving home today heard lots of gushing from he turbo on checking I have split the pipe. I know this is easy but my question is is the turbo lubricated. There is oil gunk all round the split. Is this just from the engine or of I replace the pipe is there anything turbo related that needs topping up thanks for your help it's the 1.8 tdci by the way

Garage is saying if im seeing oil round the split on the pipe its doom and gloom for the turbo

Is this just them trying to sell me a turbo where a pipe is needed and is it just lubricated by the engine

I think it is self lubricated, so its possible that if the turbo has gone, it is pretty much dead, but even then, the lack of oil means that even if the oil source was shared, then there's the risk that friction will damage, and grain metal fragments from the turbo can be drawn into the engine.

The turbo works fine mate just the hose is split so can here air gushing just wondered what the oil around the split was from noticed no dramas before the split. Got a new one coming is the garage just trying to worry me surely all I need to do is replace the part

Was just more wondering why there was oil around the split for more information it's the main u bend into the turbo with the split and the turbo seems to work fine could it just be oil was getting sucked out through the split does it sound terminal or you think it will be ok it runs fine ever with the air coming out just slow to pick up

when a turbo deteriorates, it spits its oil out of every crevice, for example, in mine, I have oil spitting out into the mass air flow pipe... so I wouldnt entirely be confident in saying the turbo is not the issue, it may still be working, but it may be in a deteriorating state...

Ah right spoke to another garage and they said its quite common for there to be an oil mist in the pipes and that don't worry unless it goes completely its not a lot just a light coating in the pipe near the turbo. Are you going to replace you're or wait till it gets worse shal I replace the pipe and keep an eye on it

Should I replace it does seem expensive or get more mileage first

Mine went last week the pipe that is and there was slight mist of oil turbo still runs fine and did whilst I waited for the pipe ford wanted 54 plus the dreaded got a silicon one off the bay 36 delivered still working fine .

they all get oil in boost pipes perfectly normal/ have had cars with 10/000 on the clock with oil in them/,unless you notice the engine oil going down quick on the dipstick don't worry.

Yep £54 here as well mate makes a lovely woosh how come they just split this is on the top of the engine

I still havent been able to find this pipe! and unfortunately, Ford are never spare to get someone out to point it out to me! if its a replaceable hose, I will do it myself, as you do with a silicone variety.
