Clutch Rattle And Wont Start

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im new to the site and in need of some much needed advice!

i have an 09 plate 2.0i titanium focus with 40k on the clock, BUT it has developed 2 very annoying/niggling problems.

in neutral with clutch pedal released (engine running), there is a rattling noise coming from the clutch,

press clutch pedal down, noise goes away..... strange huh?

also, the car starts first time, everytime ACCEPT when i want to come home from work, it just wont start unless i turn ignition on 2 or 3 times first, it will keep turning over and turning over but wont fire.

as i say this only seems to happen when the car has run then stood still for 8 or more hours, but starting in morning, doing normal things at weekends, starts on the button!

P.S i can rule out anything to do with where i actually work as i have recently changed jobs (incase there was something sinister interfering with the car)

any ideas would be appreciated

thanks!

perhaps its time to have the battery checked to see if it has a faulty cell meaning it wont charge properly as for the clutch sounds like the thrust bearing/slave cylinder

getting it booked in this week for the clutch rattle,

will have a good look at battery though, thanks for the advice!

Can you feel any judder through the clutch pedal when its pressed down ? If so, its a possible flywheel problem.

if its just a rattle, it could be the clutch thrust bearing...

a rattling clutch - or possible DMF and the car wont start... im going for the crank sensor being covered in filings

no judder or vibration through clutch pedal, just the rattle,

got it booked in at a main dealer this weekend, happily, still under warranty :D :D

thanks for all the comments, will report back when the dealer has had a look

good stuff, looking forward to seeing the outcome!
